It's been, uh, a while, but I have a new newsletter out, based on some conversations here, about the irreconcilable experiences of LLMs that different groups have had and how that all boils down to afordances and how 'AI' is a terrible name and an even worse UX metaphor.
"AI" is bad UX

@kalyeena.bsky.social , thanks for your reporting on the latest ties between Summers, Staley, and Epstein. I did have a question for you about your article.

I think quite often about how the docs at Walter Reed could have followed standard procedures and not given experimental treatment that wasn't authorized for elderly and unhealthy patients to him, and we would have avoided so much suffering and death...
They pulled the fucking lever.

Over on pre-Musk Twitter, I once saw a thread explaining how Hadrian's Wall only became properly attributed to Hadrian after John Hodgson wrote a 166 page footnote on his History of Northumberland explaining the misconception.

The footnote has its own table of contents:

I once served on my schools IT Strategic Planning Committee. The CIO got the bright idea of abolishing computer labs and replacing them with a cloud computer/VM server contract and a laptop mandate. He brought out a contractor to demo the service.

The running theme between the Epstein story, banning trans healthcare for minors, religious homeschooling and the complaints about adult children estranging themselves is a fundamental American belief that children are property with no rights of their own
America is a culture of child abuse. Ask any survivor - we find one another, we form networks and communities.

The true scale of it would stagger and sicken you, and so it is buried, it is swept under the rug, it is denied and the survivors are silenced by whatever means are necessary.

There is an old Soviet joke. Man goes to newspaper seller every morning. Always looks, never buys. Seller asks “Comrade, what are you looking for every day?”

“The obituaries”

“But obituaries are on the back pages, comrade!”

“Not the one I am looking for.”
Americans Openly Plan Trump’s Obituary After Rob Reiner Post.

The backlash was immediate. Even some Republicans and MAGA diehards called it out. But something else happened too: people started talking — openly, loudly, and without restraint — about how Trump’s own eventual death might be received.

Memorable theatre experiences... I have two that were formative.

The first time I went to a theatre was my sixth birthday. My parents took me to see Disney's Peter Pan.

I sat in bubble gum. It was gross.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

On the last impeachment resolution, my represenative, @ross.house.gov , voted to table. I called and wrote, demanding an explanation, and did not receive one.

Today, however, she bucked Jeffries to support the new one. Maybe she wasn't ignoring me as much as I felt!
And now, the 47 cowardly Democrats who were whipped by leadership to vote 'present' on the impeachment resolution today:

Pete Aguilar of CA

Wesley Bell of MO

Ami Bera of CA

Don Beyer of VA

Janelle Bynum of OR

Ed Case of HI

Sean Casten of IL

Kathy Castor of FL
