I know many people my age still have a lot of nostalgia around Harry Potter and might be tempted to watch the new HBO TV series.

Please, I'm begging you, do not tune in.

J.K. Rowling is singularly motivated. The new Harry Potter series is a cash cow intended to fund anti-trans bigotry.
J.K. Rowling is using her wealth attained from the "Harry Potter" series to create an organization dedicated to removing transgender people's rights "in the workplace, in public life, and in protected female spaces.”

Good:

* Poilievre isn't Prime Minister.
* Poilevre lost his own seat.

Bad:

* Everything has shifted substantially rightward.
* 40% of popular vote and +20 seats for Cons.
* Basically a two-party parliament of centre right and far right.
* Left leaning parties wiped out.

I'm so sad to see that Mike Morrice lost his seat in Kitchener center to a conservative candidate.... Such a huge loss for our community.

At this point this is the only riding I care about before I go to bed tonight.
Still no numbers from Carleton... boo...

Should make it so any time they attack an institution that stands up for its values against the fascist regime, that institution gets far _more_ support than it had before

Wikipedia is probably one of the last places online that Trump and his ilk can't control the narrative. It's unsurprising but devastating. Consider supporting Wikimedia foundation if you can.
Ed Martin's latest target: Wikipedia.

The interim U.S. attorney and pro-Trump bulldog has sent a letter seeming to threaten the Wikimedia Foundation's tax-exempt status over allegations that it is "spreading propaganda." Our story: www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...

Carleton riding has the opportunity to do something hilarious next week.
Facing the possibility of losing his own seat, Pierre Poilievre schedules a last-minute campaign rally in his own riding for the final day of the election

What's this? A glimmer of good news?
Google just lost the big adtech monopoly case -- safe to say the entire web economy changes after this. And probably Google, forever. www.theverge.com/news/650665/...

I was too sleepy to wake up for the eclipse last night, so instead I dreamt that I woke up for the eclipse but was unable to see it due to my neighbours giant patio umbrella (this neighbour doesn't actually exist)

The reason he joined is because no reputable Canadian outlet would hire him after the whole “appropriation prize” anti-Indigenous bigotry he painted all over Twitter. He was the managing editor of The Walrus and they fired him over it. He joined cause he was butthurt he couldn’t be racist

1. Major news in transgender care.

Germany, Switzerland, and Austria have just released their trans youth care guidelines.

They strongly recommend trans youth care and slam the
Cass Review in England.

Europe is not "pulling back" on trans care.

Apparently my mil is so displeased by seeing photos of Trump in the Toronto Star that for every article he appears in, she emails the author asking for a PDF of the article without images. They've always responded so far.

I hope I still have that level of gumption when I'm 70.

Super easy to blame "the rest of Ontario" for Ford's 11-minute victory, when the larger problem remains that there is no one to vote for. the Liberals/NDP don't care, they don't bother trying to care. They don't stand for much beyond "Doug Bad, let me keep my job" and its why no one votes for them

Hey Ontario, it's election day! If you, like me, did not receive your voter information card, you can still (and you should!) vote. You just need one piece of ID with your name and address. It doesn't even have to be photo ID.

Ford’s promises of being able to stand up to Trump are a farce. What a premier could meaningfully be doing is making Ontario strong though healthcare, education, housing, infrastructure, etc — and Ford has failed Ontario on each one. Vote him out!
