As a dark-skinned man with a Muslim first name who lives in Germany I am taking this as a personal attack. Which is exactly what these racist monsters intend. This speech is designed to escalate mob violence against us. Nothing less. To everyone who said we were exaggerating, shame on you.
Friedrich Merz, the leader of the German CDU, just claimed in parliament that gang rapes are committed on a daily basis by asylum seekers in Germany. It is pure far right propaganda. The mainstreaming of the far right is happening on steroids in Germany right now.

The exponential decline of BBC is such a depressing spectacle. It needs a clear out of senior management - and the likes of Mason and Kuenssberg.
Trump's performance was grotesque, breaking with all norms of decency. In choosing to describe it as 'combative', BBC plays its part in the normalisation of evil.
The BBC describes Trump's press conference performance as "combative"
How long has combative been a synonym for bonkers, insane, deranged.....?

So now we know what the BBC reporting strategy on Trump will be for the next 4 years:

“President Trump said

[insert latest outrageous /ludicrous/insulting/inflammatory statement]

without evidence”

No challenge.

BBC are never going to be anything other than supportive of Trump.
You should put the lies in perspective for listeners #r4today - not just repeat Trump’s outrageous slurs verbatim without checking on the facts. #DEI #Potomac #Washington
It took me two minutes to check Trump’s little story about the terrible effects that DEI has had on US aviation - which had been in place since 2013 - so throughout his own first term. It’s a pity we can’t have MSM doing at least some background before they re-broadcast his lies verbatim. #bbcpm

Pretty obvious to most BBC licencepayers that much of its news operation has been captured by the same forces of the extreme Right, yet no one in the Labour government seems to have noticed.

Media needs to find a way of reporting Trump’s reality as opposed to reality. Here he is apportioning blame to individuals who are not to blame. This is Orwellian. #r4today #Washington

We need to get past the disbelief.

Disbelief is a sign we've not fully accepted the reality.

NOBODY should be surprised about any of this.
I listened to Trump’s presser in disbelief. It began pretty well with sincere sounding expressions of sorrow, nation united in grief etc; then descended into vile partisanship, blaming, and political point scoring, with NO evidence yet what caused the crash. Sickening. No tragedy he won’t exploit.
Well said, Pete Buttigieg

The BBC and other major news providers have to stop pretending that Donald Trump as president is in anyway normal because it normalises this... and I don't know quite what it is but it sure as hell is not normal

Media-washed by the oligarch-owned press: media-washed by the right-leaning broadcast media.
The cold, hard, vicious, soulless, ruinous, ugly truth of Trump’s presidency is going to be media-washed with sycophancy and lies. It’s beyond disturbing how willing people are to excuse and be complicit in his profoundly evil stupidity.

Worthy of a complaint, but you know it would be dismissed.
Was just disinvited by @bbc5live.bsky.social to a discussion of Brexit 5 years on- on the entirely reasonable/correct grounds that I know what I am talking about and would give an expert, objective view.

What they actually wanted was a "hard Remainer" (to balance a know-nothing Brexiteer).

An image leaked to Byline Times shows Reform MP Nigel Farage posing with far-right activists, including individuals associated with anti-migrant protests and racist social media posts.

No response to our request for comment from Farage so far.

"We need to do our best, as Trump and his allies do their worst."
Important also to keep remembering or creating a politics where leaders invite citizens to be and do their best, in an imperfect world, rather than reveling in conduct that should be reviled and celebrating the worst of human nature.
"The problem is that with Trump riding high, and with (narrow) Republican majorities in Congress, it’s more important than ever before that some Republicans in Congress stand up to him. But the fact that he’s riding so high makes it more unlikely..."

The orchestrated chorus of mediocrities predictably chanting about DEI is the best living argument for DEI one could find.
I hope the Democrats have forceful people in front of cameras, angrily and loudly calling out these lies, shaming them, and explaining what the administration is doing, and why.
Regardless of what investigations find about the tragic air disaster, the right will flood us with talk of DEI. This is not just about racism and sexism. It's a slogan-level excuse to cover all the hardship that accompanies the organized extraction and transfer of wealth from the rest to the rich.
