This is an excellent observation and I’d add that there’s a huge gender component here: women with political ambition are seeing that going hardcore MAGA does not bring the same likelihood of reward as it does for men and that’s going to affect the calculus for both incumbents & potential candidates
(1/2) I think Stefanik's downfall is a bigger deal that ppl think. Casting aside all principles to kiss Trump's ass was the smart move (Tessio was always smarter) and it destroyed her career. Washington Republicans are amoral sociopaths and they notice things like this.

The media continues to fail us, to downplay the seriousness of the situation, refusing to acknowledge how corrupt the cover-up of this whole episode is.
Washington Post's new headline is still wrong.

1. The release was not "huge."
2. DOJ missed the deadline to release all the files.
3, No mention of extensive redactions.

Yep, my sense is that Vance is the figurehead for the less-obviously-Nazi wing to push ethnonationalism into the mainstream.
Takes halfway through this article to get there but, yeah its not just Fuentes preaching blood and soil politics, the most prominent person doing that, quite explicitly, is JD Vance (like Vivek, a Peter Thiel protegee) www.nytimes.com/2025/12/19/u...

I cannot emphasize how serious an assault on democracy this is. Any effort by the Trump administration to engage in false claims of fraud or mass voter suppression relies on this as a building block. As importantly, there is no legitimate reason DOJ would want this information.
🚨BREAKING: The Department of Justice (DOJ) sued Georgia, Illinois, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C. Thursday for unfettered access to the states’ voter registration records. The federal government has now filed lawsuits against 21 states, plus D.C.

This is a developing story...

TAPPER: Earlier today - this isn't the first time - Trump appeared to be struggling to keep eyes open. Does that worry you?

REINER: It's jarring to see him go from basically asleep in the Oval to this rapid fire pace during a 30-minute speech he gave in 18. There's been a lot of health issues.

I also have been assuming that the primary purpose of this conflict is domestic
I keep saying this but no one is connecting the dots. The war is to satisfy legal preconditions for mass removal *domestically* of Latinos (i.e., suddenly a lot of people are going to be “Venezuelan” for purposes of removal). This is 100% Stephen Miller…oil claim is to make grandpa go along
There is no national security logic that would impel the US to want to do regime change in Venezuela. It's simply not that important. I'm not even sure wag the dog is the right metaphor for what's happening here. Seems like an insane misallocation of US national security assets and attention.
