I think at this point it’s fair to say that we’re no longer under the rule of law.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh: “If the officers learn that the individual they stopped is a U.S. citizen...they promptly let the individual go."

The reality: Americans have been dragged, tackled, beaten, tased and shot by immigration agents.

A must read from the very talented @nicolefoy.bsky.social:
More Than 170 U.S. Citizens Have Been Held by Immigration Agents. They’ve Been Kicked, Dragged and Detained for Days.
The government does not track how often immigration agents grab citizens. So ProPublica did. Our tally — almost certainly incomplete — includes people who were held for days without a lawyer. And near...

It's fascinating to watch originalists insist that the intention of the Founders was to create an all-powerful executive with near-plenary authority over the entire government only a few years after fighting the American Revolution

The brave men and women who serve in our national guards must not be used as political props. This is a moment where every American must speak up and help stop this madness.

Every Democrat at every level of office must denounce this madness Monday morning. Has to be huge outcry. We need to be incredibly loud.
We must now start calling this what it is: Trump’s Invasion. It started with federal agents, it will soon include deploying federalized members of the Illinois National Guard against our wishes, and it will now involve sending in another state’s military troops.

In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists when unprovoked — what would we call it?

If federal agents marched down streets demanding papers — what would we say?

Authoritarianism — let’s not pretend it’s something else when it happens in our American cities.

Took about 20 years. And I never thought a book about enslavers using deputization to give themselves policing power would be relevant to our times. But we are where we are.

My book, White Power: Policing American Slavery, is now available for preorder.

This is an interesting piece. It makes me mourn for the time when we could think judges worried mostly about following the law and could assume that the executive would mostly follow it. But if you assume judges are thinking in this way, the options in this essay are just the start. Here's more:

We can dunk on Silver. But the folks wildly hyping Adams in 2021-22 included Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden. The desire for a prominent BLACK politician who was pro-police and hostile to the BLM movement was broadly shared within elite Dem circles. They ignored obvious signs he was corrupt and inept.

Democrats should never vote to fund a government that's waging war on its own citizens and firing officials *because* they insist on following court orders instead of breaking the law. Let Senate Republicans nuke the filibuster. None of this is normal and it shouldn't be treated as such.

Serious question: what does it matter that Trump is polling in the 30s unless and until an organized and mobilized opposition prevails in free and fair elections?
I think we should also ridicule Miller here, not fear him. His fascist cosplay is absurd. He thinks tweeting in a clipped, military-sounding tone will frighten us. Oooo, he said "utilized"! Scary! Meanwhile their efforts to prosecute foes are imploding in buffoonery and Trump is polling in the 30s.
After Miller tweeted that calling ICE is "incitement to violence," I directly asked Bannon if this means the government will be unleashed on groups that describe ICE that way. "Yes," Bannon told me, adding that Miller is "in charge." You can read that exchange in this link: bsky.app/profile/greg...

The financial economy is immersed in the kind of wild gambling we saw leading up to the 2008 financial crisis.

We’re seeing it all over again — this time with crypto, meme stocks, junk bonds, and investors pumping up shares of AI stocks without knowing what it is.

Be warned.

Nearly every time, I see ICE agents arresting immigrants. Today, a woman was slammed to the ground after begging officials not to take her husband away.

Chief Justice John Roberts has now overseen 20 years of increasingly illiberal rulings by the Supreme Court.
