Took about 20 years. And I never thought a book about enslavers using deputization to give themselves policing power would be relevant to our times. But we are where we are.

FIFA is selling parking spots near 2026 World Cup stadiums for between $75 & $175 per spot & per gameday.
A 2026 parking pass alone, at $75 in the group stage, costs more than a Category 3 ticket to any group match at the 2022 World Cup, which was $69.

What is the cultural logic of constitutionalism? Fascinating piece by Matilde Cazzola and Sabarish Suresh:
"this article contributes to a wider reflection around the interplay between historical traumas, constitutions, and mandates within them as a form of criminalisation of painful pasts."

Yesterday this cat, Stevie G, bolted outside and saw a black squirrel on the patio. Stevie took two steps toward it but the squirrel ran away. Stevie then decided to lie down for a belly rub.
Suffice to say even Stevie G. the spoiled calico cat fought harder than @durbin.senate.gov.

The president pardoned alleged co-conspirators for crimes related to the 2020 election. This emphasizes the importance of state prosecutions after failed presidential auto-coups in our constitutional system, which I argued here in the Wisconsin Law Review: repository.law.wisc.edu/s/uwlaw/item...

I’m sure Schumer was in on it but would not be shocked if this was a Dick Durbin op. A coward who cares more about his beloved Senate than the people.

Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.
so currently defectors are:
Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.
The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.
People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.
And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.
