We’ve seen claims online that asylum seekers are being given Freedom Passes for free London travel.

They may be eligible if they meet location, age or disability criteria which apply to all Londoners. There’s no special provision for asylum seekers.
Are asylum seekers given Freedom Passes for free travel in London? – Full Fact
There is no specific provision for asylum seekers to get free travel in London but they may be eligible for Freedom Passes like any other Londoner.

My #Budget2025 shock headline! Basically middle-of-the-road bog standard Labour budget, slightly more tax to pay for slightly more welfare. Off to bed.

So we are clear welfare spending in this country is NOT “out of control”. It’s risen very little in 10+ years. Small increase due to ageing & ill population. But benefits to working age families & children have been cut severely. Over 70% of children in poverty live in working families #Budget2025

Reform is a party that says things that appeal to racists, fields racist candidates, fawns over racist world leaders, made a convicted racist guest of honour at their conference, and whose leader refuses to outright deny having racially abused people.

If only there were a word for such a party.

As more people require adult social care, & as needs become more complex, Directors are projecting an overspend of £623mn this year. This will affect how much care people can receive & how quickly they can access it.

Mahmood/government should say explain *objective* of increasing time to settlement for 15 years for care workers who arrived 2022-24

Is it

A) to get them to leave? Why?
B) to save money? Then why not just restrict benefits?
C) to "encourage integration"? How? Will do opposite.
15 years for people in medium skilled jobs and care workers too. I believe this goes down to 10 years if they earn over £50,270. Someone in a high skilled job earning over that qualifies in 5 years.

Can those in Commons and media holding govt to account please keep asking this Q until we get a clear answer?
'will you be deporting thousands of children to a place they've never been minister' is a big enough & obvious enough Q that govt has to know the answer to it before they unveil the whole package - it surely has a material effect on costs, numbers, political impact, maybe legality. So either..

Over the next week, there will be a lot of people here critiquing the Labour govt.'s plans to get the economy back on an even keel. I will probably be one of them. Worth remembering then that 18 months ago we had a govt. that had no strategy, no credibility, and which was entirely self-serving.
