Interesting to think about what this means in a long term sense. Maybe it puts a bit of a question mark on the instincts (including mine) that we need to throw previous strategies away.
Final-round Mpls mayor ballots in. Short 🧵:
- Frey won 7 wards, Fateh 6
- Frey won the 5 votingest wards (excluding exhausted ballots) … over *60%* in each. Fateh won next 5 but basically didn’t matter at that point.
- All wards redistricted since ‘21. Still, Ward 6 went from 64% Frey to 72% Fateh!

I don't know that I'm convinced, but it is an interesting argument. I think to organize a base to act this way you'd have to drastically de-emphasize the value of electoral politics in favor of other kinds of organizing, while also making sure they still turn out to vote, and that is not easy work.
Yes, if you look at the distribution, Davis had a higher ceiling than Fateh. Davis can capture voters to the left and the right of him. And you need that to build 50%+1. The problem is the ordering of the rank. You still have to get to a majority. Rank three in any order isn't enough to win.

It just adds to the confusion I was having when Walz posted yesterday that Minnesota's SNAP benefits are (were?) restored and Ellison said it is (was?) because of a court victory.

The regime despises poor people, yes. And importantly it does not fear poor people as a political force. It's important to take both of these together to understand what they are doing with SNAP. They do not believe that they will incur lasting political costs for their current actions.
