In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Americans were fascinated by the plight of the Afrikaners—so much so that they came in droves to see the Boer War reenacted on Coney Island and at the World’s Fair.
Gimme Boer | Charlie Dulik
The recent resettlement of a few dozen Afrikaner “refugees” points to a longer history of U.S. fascination with these Dutch-descended white South Africans.

I saw this picture on a post earlier this month. At first it made me laugh, but the more I think about it, the more right it feels for the end of Pride Month. Because much of the rhetoric I see fly around about transgender people and ideas seems rooted in ignorance. (Thread)

They break lives.
And voters know it. Don’t fool yourself.

The US currently has 902 billionaires - 0.0002% of our population.

$280,000 is 0.02% of $1 billion.

Republicans are destroying our nation for the equivalent of pocket gravel for the obscenely wealthy.

So the consensus is in. The roots of all America’s problems are:

1. Billionaires are paying too much tax.

2. Too many people prepared to do the most demanding work for low wages.

3. Too much scientific research.

4. Too much affordable healthcare.

5. Too many pronouns.

I'm just quoting @radosh.bsky.social 's posting to add to its visibility. Get your facts straight, people. Be as grounded in humane understanding as Zohran is.
I feel like I'm losing my mind. Here is the transcript of what Zohran Mamdani actually said about the phrase "globalize the intifada." This is his "refusal to disavow it." This is what has people terrified. Just fucking read it.

It's peak season in WA State cherries. Workers are paid piece rate and earn $4.50 per 22lb bucket. (The same as they earned in 2022). If they work super fast they can harvest 50 to 60 buckets in a 9 hour day during this very short peak season. #WeFeedYou
