This is a story about how
my visage flipped with sneering frown
and I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there
and I'll tell you how to look on my works and despair.

after many days, rain. the river down below the bridge a dark slate blue. above still overcast and still spitting, but away to the north a break in the clouds, and the sun streams down on the mountains. on the radio linda ronstadt sings poor, poor pitiful me. blow your wounded heart wide open.

Really worth the read.
Short 🧵
When I taught South African history a couple of years ago, I spent a week talking about mining and labor struggles. One of the main features of the initial stages of both gold and diamond mining there (this is pre-Rhodes) was that anyone could own a claim, regardless of race.

I agree with much of this thread, but I think it needs to be said: if unity is the way to get around fascists, we need to fucking unify, and that means at this stage, swiftly discouraging the wedge issue dividers in our own party.

There’s an enormous amount of stuff in this book I’d like to highlight, but start with:
“What emerges as the most elementary insight is that, since we do not now have any ways of making computers wise, we ought not now to give computers tasks that demand wisdom.”

Thread aimed at trans folks but helpful for anybody impacted by The Horrors and trying to discern information intake in relation to meaningful action and mental health.
Here's a thread about how trans people can approach remaining informed of the news in a way that prioritizes pragmatism, self-care, and building resistance.
It's based on what I'm doing personally. So, fyi, I'm more anxious than usual, but holding up substantially.

One of my favorite things about DS9 is that it gets so many religious Types of Guy (gender neutral) right. They take it seriously enough to have an exvangelical who still believes (Kira), basically a Jesuit (Bareil), true believer (Opaka), and super-toxic ambition (Winn).
