I’m offended by the excessive AI ads and straight up surveillance technology being advertised last night. Those cameras will collect videos and images of your neighborhood that ICE will use to track you and your neighbors. As someone else said “Way to soft launch community facial tracking.”

Any takers for a Zoom guest lecture?
Any doctoral student or early career scholar want to give an online guest lecture on Marcion (preferably) or second century Christianity (but not gnosticism) more broadly?

I think I can offer you a $100 stipend for a 45 minute talk. Needs to be MWF 10-1050.

Well, I thank the gods that I'm at the chariot racing part of my Roman spectacles course. I will, however, be endlessly astonished by the lack of interest in archeological reports on where toilets were in various structures.

That's a lot of valuable pee unaccounted for!

Loved Bad Bunny’s performance.

Absolutely HATED all the AI, crypto, and weight loss commercials. Pure slop.

Got to finally sit down today with @platanoclassics.bsky.social's book from last year. It was deeply deeply challenging. A tour de force and a must read: press.princeton.edu/books/hardco...
Classicism and Other Phobias
A provocative case for why immortalizing Greek and Roman culture as “classical” marginalizes and devalues Black life

One of the pair of skaters for the couples figure skating did their routine to the music from Gladiator, so that was neat.

Looks like it's University of Chicago Press super-sale time again. Might I recommend not getting ebooks from them no matter how good the deal? I got 4 from the last sale, and they're so locked down that they need extra software + can't be annotated. So they miss the point of academic books.

I was told this as a bumbling PhD candidate and it bears repeating: PhD candidates are Instructor of Records, not Professors. IOR teach lower level undergrad courses. Instructors typically have a minimum of an MA and have completed most PhD reqs. Professors have their PhD completed and tenure track.
