Life has been...rough for a while, and I haven't been able to write much for too long, but if you're curious about what I've got, here are a few links to some short stories.

Here's a story with a little horror and a little hope that young me needed. jlilycorbie.wordpress.com/2020/10/11/c...
Come to the Water
Written for the lonely teenager I was, who badly needed to see some happy endings. Happy coming out day.

Absolutely brutal report just out from National Association of Realtors on the utterly broken US housing market.

First-time homebuyers fell to a historic low of just 21% of all homebuyers, and their median age was an all-time high of 40 years old.

The American Dream is dead.

hey! if I send you an invoice, shut the fuck up. do not mention NSFW stuff or even the word "furry" or anything, Paypal is company of dickbags searching for any excuse to harass creators. using invoices is the smartest/best/safest way of working as a comm artist, and this is explicit targeting
Apparently P*ypal now asks for customer opinions on accounts sending invoices.
If you are paying an invoice to a nsfw artist, do NOT mention NSFW in any way, keep it blank even. you risk both your account and the artists.

my wife and her entire team were fired over Zoom from their program manager jobs at a local nonprofit Seattle hospital this Spring because Trump just stopped paying Medicaid reimbursements. and this is a relatively affluent urban center

we're really not prepared for what's coming
As a direct result of President Trump's Big Ugly Bill, almost 300 jobs will be cut from Providence Swedish's First Hill, Cherry Hill, Ballard, and Issaquah hospitals and clinics. These are not the only layoffs we've seen in our health care system in Washington state in recent months.
Providence Swedish to eliminate nearly 300 positions
The cuts will affect jobs at Providence Swedish’s First Hill, Cherry Hill, Ballard and Issaquah hospitals and nearby clinics.

I have realized that maybe the correct medium for making a gingerbread Baba Yaya house is cinnamon clay.

Still wire and paper clay for the chicken feet, though.

Might have to experiment with a small gingerbread house and some more traditional cinnamon ornaments first.

From the people who brought you the financial crisis, Theranos, and Juicero: say hello to data center financial engineering!
I'm pretty nervous about this ending badly, but everyone's dug in because AI is the only pulse in the economy.

It’s not just OpenAI that looks overhyped. There’s a whole mountain of sketchy financial engineering underneath.

When I tell people I'm not a mind reader, I mean I checked.

In 8th grade, my BFF and I spent months on experiments testing if either of us were telepathic, and failing that, if we could develop a telepathic bond between us.

No dice.

Too often, writers take the laziest possible way out of a story by killing a character/letting a character die.

Make people live with the events of the story. Make them live with what they did, what was done to them, what they went through.

For me it's the way the press pool just quietly went along with it because he's the president

The entire point of this country is that we don't have to let some guy do whatever he wants just because of his title. We don't have to respect him or go along with him just because he holds an office
I don't know why the "Piggy" thing is bothering me so much. It's one more unforgivable thing in a list of 20,000 unforgivable things, but I've been mad about it for like 12 straight hours.

I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it: I wish people who design vehicles would take into account the world they're expected to function in.

Headlight brightness and height. Blind spots. Length. Width.

Other people need to see. Vehicles need to fit in lanes, parking spaces, garages, etc.
I wish we, like, regulated shit nowadays. Between car bloat, blinding headlines, and neighbourhoods packed with rental suites but no on-property parking, driving is an absolute nightmare now.
Nearly all drivers say vehicles' lights are too bright in study
The study, commissioned by the Department for Transport, was completed by Berkshire's TRL.

If the President can impose his own taxes and use the proceeds to spend on his own projects, all without Congress, we have a dictatorship not a constitutional republic.
BREAKING: Deputy White House Chief of Staff James Blair said the administration is eyeing ways to give millions of Americans $2,000 dividend checks from tariff revenue without congressional approval, per Bloomberg.

Am I a hypocrite for wanting this after giving a hard no to muppet knives out
Okay, I'm making my case for the only Muppet I want to see on Broadway right now...

I wish there were a way to filter out all recipes with protein powder in them.

I don't mind that the recipes exist, I just wish I didn't have to wade through so many of them and could somehow bypass them entirely.

My personal “Don’t give to the Salvation Army” story:
When I was homeless in 2019, the Salvation Army shelter refused to give me a bed (even though they were available), because I was on immunosuppressant meds and they didn’t want to be responsible or liable if I got more sick or died on premises. They’d rather I die on the street.
It’s dinner time for the police. Appears to be pizza from a Salvation Army van.

Broadview’s “free speech” curfew starts soon, at 6pm.

I think (one of) the biggest problem(s) with that whole 'if you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras' thing is the sheer number of medical professionals who will rule out horses and consider their job done.

Charlotte-Mecklebburg Schools, according to reports, saw 15% of its students absent today amid Border Patrol operations in Charlotte. If that percentage of 15% happens Tuesday in Wake County due to the Border Patrol coming to Raleigh, 24.000 students could be absent from school. #nced #ncpol #wcpss
