Life has been...rough for a while, and I haven't been able to write much for too long, but if you're curious about what I've got, here are a few links to some short stories.

Here's a story with a little horror and a little hope that young me needed. jlilycorbie.wordpress.com/2020/10/11/c...
Come to the Water
Written for the lonely teenager I was, who badly needed to see some happy endings. Happy coming out day.

"What if one of YOUR favorite politicians/celebrities/etc is on the list?" Did you all not notice how quickly we dropped Neil Gaiman when we found out about the things he did? Do you know how beloved that guy used to be and how loathed he is now? I think that right there should answer your question.

I see the “technically it’s ephebophelia” crowd is out today, so just a reminder that A) this is NOT a case where technically correct is the best kind of correct and B) the minute you say this, the gods dump you in the “irredeemable creeper” basket and wash their hands thoroughly after touching you.

Today is a good day to remember, and to say, that the #MeToo movement was right, and was righteous, and has been vindicated over and over again. There was no overreach. There was no excess. There was no they-went-too-far.

So much work remains to be done.

No, see, the thing is, the Great Lakes aren't inland seas. Size doesn't matter there, they're lakes and not seas because they're fresh water.

So like. They behave a lot like seas because of their size, but also they're literally not seas and fresh water is different and that matters.

My dog Rhapsody used to sleep at night by pressing her little butt against my side so we were in contact, but not too much contact.

Sonata was a kitten when Rhapsody passed away, and now she does the same thing. I don't know if she got it from Rhapsody, but it makes my heart ache in a not bad way.

In June, during a different health event, my dad learned he has congestive heart failure. They caught it super early, barely diagnosable, quite treatable.

He started meds, tried to work out a bit more, and got a new ultrasound. Result: 10% improvement!

He can't understand what changed.

I'm having the sort of week where I legit cannot tell if I'm mildly ill or if the local weather is doing a serious number on me (but also, why not both?).

I'm trying to be extra mindful about wearing my mask when I'm out in public, just in case.

I really prefer actually, clearly being ill to this.

spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

Man, there's so much more Christmas horror than Halloween horror, I wonder why.

*after the least amount of time looking at Christmas/Yule related folklore* Nevermind, I figured it out.

Authors, Beware! There's a firm called "ClaimsHero" doing aggressive social media outreach claiming to
"help" you file to get $ in the Anthropic class action. In fact, it's a bait-and-switch, they are luring authors to sign up with them, then OPTING THEM OUT of the class action so they'll get zilch.

I love how some of the responses to the calling churches for baby formula TikTok lady is people saying with a straight face, 'well, you have to be careful because grifters'.

You think grifters ask for a single small can of baby formula?

You think Jesus would ask for proof of poverty?

MSNBC reported Schumer's office felt that the longer that shutdown went on, the more likely it was that people would start to blame the Dems.

My kingdom for Democrats that don't govern out of fear. I've said it before and I'll say it again: The American people are far braver than their reps.

One thing councillors can count on is an annual pre-budget visit from the police chief predicting chaos without vast amounts of new spending. Meanwhile, services that prevent crime are cut to pay for the police budget, social neglect goes up, and rinse and repeat.
Glad to see this @livewirecalgary.bsky.social op-ed naming last week’s pre-budget intimidation campaign by Calgary police for what it was.

By former city councillor @cwalcottyyc.bsky.social
We need to “demand that city council invest every dollar they have in the housing needed to really clean up our streets”

From a "gingerbread" recipe that looks delicious, but absolutely isn't gingerbread: "I know not putting any cinnamon or cloves in a gingerbread cookie recipe sounds crazy..."

You know what's crazier? Not putting any ginger in your gingerbread.

Thank you, all. Y'all are amazing.
Food request! I need shelf stable diabetes-friendly food & medical supplies I cannot afford with my health issues. There aren't local food banks that can help me. All my food aid is from your kindness!

Here is my list if you'd like to help this disabled queer trans artist. Thank you!

I am not talented enough, or more importantly motivated enough, to learn to make all the things I want to make.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough money to commission actually talented and motivated people to make things, either, which is truly the dream.

At a book fair this weekend and buying ALL THE BOOKS, but one author included this carabiner bottle opener with my purchase of a pair of sapphic romcoms, and let me tell you, best possible marketing move. I have giggled so much about it, and there's been a lot of cute bonus items from authors.

I have never been great with clay, and I took one class on cake decorating (and hated it), so somehow I'm vaguely convinced that if I set out to make a chicken-legged gingerbread hut, it would definitely work.

Miss the DVD extras, though.

It is both awesome and annoying to find a cool new podcast when it's actually new and there only like the episodes out.

Like, yay, I'm in on the ground floor! But also what do you mean I'm already caught up?
