Another often overlooked but important election.

Loudoun County Public Schools has been ground zero for targeting by the Trump administration over trans students, and chose to protect their students.

Pro-trans candidates Chandler and Svenson are winning, and anti-trans Munoz-Melendez is losing.

Want to contribute to #LandBack? Here is a fund for an Indigenous encampment to buy land to help people into housing.

They have done so much good despite endless cruelty from the mayor and police. Every donation is currently being doubled, so even a little bit helps!

my wife googled “united airlines customer service” the other day and the AI summary seemed legit enough so she called the number that it listed. she got like 30 seconds into the call before they were asking for her BANK INFO. a scammer had gotten their number prominent enough that the AI grabbed it.

Basically every social justice idea gets this treatment. Centrists and libertarians read Mounk/Pinker/Haidt types about "the illiberal left" and they assume these are objective presentations of the ideas. They never read feminists except through a hostile lens. The lies become common knowledge.
you can tell they've only read right-wing lies about the concept of toxic masculinity. you're not born with toxic masculinity. it's something learned, practiced, and rewarded by society
Democratic think tankers will tell right-wing journalists anything. "We've replaced the idea of 'original sin' with the postmodern idea of 'toxic masculinity.' No we didn't. That isn't true.

UPDATE: UT Austin president Jay Hartzell has announced that the school will close its Division of Campus and Community Engagement (though some programs will continue). UT Austin's website describes DCCE as "a national model for integrating access and belonging into the University’s core mission."
The University of Texas has laid off at least 4 employees in DEI-related positions a week after state senator Brandon Creighton sent a letter to public universities warning about the "stringent enforcement provisions" of the state's recently passed anti-DEI law
UT lays off at least four employees previously in DEI-related position, sources confirm
Sources say the staff were not in DEI-related positions anymore. The news comes after Creighton's warning to chancellors about SB 17 compliance.

The rise of AI-generated photos poses a serious threat to our understanding of history. As these fake images become increasingly convincing, it's getting harder to separate fact from fiction.

Key issue – see the sign on the locked Emergency Exit to the left of revolving door:

"For gate access, use Customer Assistance intercom to contact booth agent."

Why? It's locked to stop farebeaters.

There was no booth agent. So, no way to open Emergency Exit during a stampede of panicked people.
Thursday. As a G train pulled into Hoyt-Schermerhorn, shots rang out. People on the platform ran pell mell onto the G to get away. When train reached its next stop, Fulton, a panicked mob fled. An emergency exit gate (black) wouldn't open. Crowd struggled thru one skinny revolving turnstile to exit.
