Great piece by @adashtra.bsky.social . I was pulled into MTG circa 2020 mainly because of its original, wildly varied and multifaceted background. Its UB sets have been extremely hit-or-miss, entirely on whether I was a fan of the property featured or not.

Y'all, Ash is on it. Please consider looking at my former colleagues at The Verge. Little by little, they're ably filling the gap left by the loss of Polygon with maturity and humanity.
Talking to people way smarter than me about the things I enjoy is, no bullshit, the best part of my job. So thanks to the folks who talked to me about why Magic’s starting to look like a Fortnite lobby and what this means for the long term health of the game
Magic: The Gathering’s future looks like Fortnite, and fans are split

“I was there the day Horus slew the emperor.”
It all came true. The Steam Deck really was the seed, like I wrote last year. I thought probably I'd see the headset after I landed in Seattle. Probably the gamepad and Steam Link.

But the whole master plan was there. www.theverge.com/2024/12/6/24...
Valve’s master plan for Steam Machines is finally coming into focus
Deckard, Roy, Ibex and Fremont could be just the start.

Might 'a gone deep in their library's coffers.
And all that remains of the High Tide they claim
Are Commanders, and Modern, not Pauper!!!!
I found the only comment on the High Tide ban that matters:

Who will come sit with me for the Acquisition's Inc show Saturday night at PAXU? I've sat quietly in the corner keeping my thoughts to myself because coverage for years now, and now I want to enjoy it with other humans.

sort of incredible to read a review that doesn't just made a vague nod at AI being bad, but actively reckons with the ways in which falling obsessively to AI usage actively obliterates the artistic intent and integrity of the work you've made.

WE HAVE A NEW WEBSITE

This has consumed around 4 months of my life. We've rebuilt the business from the ground-up. New site, new backend, new customer experience, new platform, new everything.

we spent two years flailing, having no idea how to run a business. now...we have more of an idea.
Despite the ravages of age and an internet steeped in misinformation, your eyes – in this one case – do not deceive you: Website different. It’s taken an immense amount of time and effort, but welcome to Aftermath version 2.0:

We have been doing a rewatch of Battlestar Galactica with another couple who are very good friends of ours. The husband has not seen the show ever, and I am enjoying it so very much. Tonight is 33. Lock the fuck in.

Da fuq?
I asked about Game Awards press tickets in October. Got an email yesterday encouraging me to buy my own, as there were no spares.

Good digital hygiene update, friends. Look into it.
Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

If anyone can isolate the "ah, logistics" line from Zavala in Destiny 2 I will ... empties pockets... thank you. I will thank you. Hard.
Ah, logistics.

Having the fancy starship with the awesome railguns is great—up until you realize that you can't duplicate the *rounds* the people you stole it from fired.

Six point five billion gravities. It takes some engineering to have something that can undergo that and still have an engine.

Switching my virtual workday from Slack to Discord is sending me for a loop this week. It's like moving from gaming on a console to modding games on a PC, which... yeah, I guess that makes sense.
