Happy book day to me!

The theocratic once-masters of the alien half of Chimera's people have taken the system by storm. Mars has a plan to liberate them, but it will take time.

Time the Chimerans may not have.
Time Mage-Captain Roslyn Chambers isn't prepared to wait...

Ooh, it's progressed to just not accepting uploads.
Anyone else finding IngramSpark spinning forever verifying uploaded files today?

Hugo nominations are now open! I'll talk more about my overall eligibility when I'm not actively working (I am stealing these words from today's task), but I wanted to highlight my Best Series eligibility.
Nominations are now open for the 2026 Hugo Awards!

Emails are going out to eligible nominators (those who became a member of LAcon V by January 31, 2026, or were a member of the Seattle Worldcon 2025) about how to set up their LAcon V virtual convention account.

I think I may be confused. Or crazy.

I'm trying to put a French paperback in categories on Amazon and literally the only option under "Fantasy" for French books is "Cozy"

Uh... I'm not sure that's where my Urban Fantasy action adventure belongs.

The horrors persist, but so must I. And my persistence means making sure people know about my job so I can feed the cats, pay the mortgage, and help support the causes I believe in.

With this in mind, the reprint editions of IMAGINARY NUMBERS and CALCULATED RISKS are out today!

Age verification? I used to rush home from elementary school to catch Rescue Rangers on TV.
Age verification? My first anime was "Space Cruiser Yamato"
Age verification? On my middle school basketball team we all chewed lemon-lime Gatorgum.

She's been doing a new comic recently, SIDE QUESTED, with @alepresser.com as her artist, and I had eyed it but never quite committed--I missed the start and catching up felt like a committment.

Always fun when everyone is sharing the same article about something but it's paywalled.

Dear NFL:

Please go K-Pop next year. It would be so awesome. And so funny.

Oh. Apparently I just ran out of ISBNs.

Sigh. Didn't realize I was that close or I would have requested the new prefix already.

I have the e-book ISBN for the second Le Sang du Changelin book, but not the ISBNs for the paperbacks.

I guess this is a preorder for a book releasing in April, but ugh.

Well, I just went and bought the historian's book, so chalk up another win for Bad Bunny, who is apparently the bestest bunny.
I guess I am not a natural Bad Bunny fan, but what's not to like when he collaborates with a real historian and his Super Bowl half time show makes headlines, not because of a wardrobe malfunction, but because it provoked an unhinged rant from POTUS on the satirically named Truth Social.
Pop star Bad Bunny needed a Puerto Rican history scholar. UW–Madison had just the one.
Bad Bunny collaborated with UW–Madison history professor Jorell Meléndez-Badillo on Puerto Rican narratives that accompany the new album “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS.”

Suggestions? It's not high on my list but I'm thinking similarly.
I think I need to transfer my domain hosting to a more user-friendly host. The one I use is for people who know what they're doing, which I used to but don't really anymore.

EU would be better than US, but...suggestions?

I still remember the preteen who come up to my signing in New York and happily chattered at me about both the new book and the ongoing series until their mum gently reminded them there was a line

And then, while ushering, whispered thank you to me - because the kid DID NOT talk to strange people.
Pretty sure it’s still me, actually, since nobody is gonna come up to you at a signing and tell you how much your slop meant to them.
“If I can generate a book in a day, and you need six months to write a book, who’s going to win the race?” God this is bleak

Gonna go into hype mode here because she’s so hella cool in person, so FYI, she’s got a TON of stuff already done, and her print catalogue is straight out of geek heaven. (What are you waiting for? Make It Sold! 😄)

SHE’S FINISHED! My 5-foot-long Enterprise D oil painting is complete after nearly 100 hours of work!

I remember being 13 years old or so and trying to draw her and it was so hard, and all I wanted was to be able to do something like this. Truly a dream come true. 🥰🖖

I bought little tables for the cat food bowls, as some things I had seen suggested it might help with some of the issues they're having

Skadi had food on hers twice. Then, when Jack forgot it last night, stood a bit away from her food bowl and waited for the table to be set up

Guess it wins

Spent 20 minutes fighting with Atticus to try and format a book without going to the Mac.

Gave up. Had everything neatly lined up in 5 minutes on Vellum.

Sigh.

Alright, where are my gifted kids at? You were smart and you never had to study and then you went to college and suddenly had to learn a new skillset overnight, that everybody else had years to learn, or flame out spectacularly?

That’s what talent is like.
In my experience, talent is a *detriment* to learning.

I didn't have to practice early on so I *didn't know how*. I didn't start to learn how to practice until my 30s! (When much of my life was taken up with parenting, so I didn't have time!)

I didn't start to improve as a musician until my 40s!

Do you need good news?
End of Oct, diagnosed with an abdominal mass, expected weeks to live, all Rodney wanted to eat was his pureed salmon treats and had 10+ of them a day. I'd spent $2500 on vet visits for the cats, Shawn was on new prescription food, so I was so grateful when you folks sent him a bunch of boxes.

There is a small flock of... Pheasants? Prairie chickens?
Odd fat little birds living in my new neighborhood.

Today one was having breakfast in my yard.

I think it's going to be a good day.

I'm playing Tactics Ogre reborn. Somehow completely unspoiled on the plot and still quite early on...

But there's a sudden yet inevitable betrayal coming up, I'm pretty sure.
