(1/X) Imagine how insane you would sound if you tried to explain someone about Bari Weiss and "free speech" discourse 20 years from now.

"There was a conservative opinion writer hired by the Times. She wrote about "free speech" constantly....

This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...

I think anyone who is remotely serious about winning the Dem nomination in ‘28 must be ironclad on four points.
1. Abolishing ICE
2. Vigorously prosecuting and all Trump admin criminal acts
3. Razing anything Trump has slapped his name on - on day one
4. Reforming the Supreme Court

A lot has happened since then! Share your feelings on offseason priorities, the direction of the club and more, to be compiled in a story next week: www.nytimes.com/athletic/683...

Breaking character: I am open to the idea the media's coverage of Biden's age and mental acuity was fair or perhaps not even tough enough. But the fact that it was so much tougher than the coverage of Trump's (more severe) mental decline is damning and I can't see how anyone could argue otherwise.
NYT isn’t worth reading because they are in the bag for Trump

OBAMA: “What if I sent the National Guard into Texas and said I don’t care what Governor Abbott says… and just kind of took over?”

Imagine that.

Fox News would’ve held a 96-hour emergency broadcast with 18 split screens and a countdown to “Tyranny Day.”

But when it’s Trump doing it? Crickets.

Our most populous, most productive, most powerful, and most federal-tax-paying state can do more to throw its weight around. And stop a bully.
Illinois just joined the legal fight to keep Trump from sending red states National Guards into blue states. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/10...

(1/X) Sometimes people ask "why does this supposedly reasonable Republican back Trump or why does this centrist spend all of this time attacking the left at a time when the right is destroying the country?"

The answer is simple: it's because they're assholes.

Trump's false claim here--about how "radical left globalists" (i.e. Soros) are the puppeteers who fund & organize civil rights protests--is the same basic story that the fascists of the 1950s and 60s told about the civil rights protests of that era. It's a familiar cocktail of racism & antisemitism.

A careful study of every populist episode since 1900 finds catastrophic consequences, which play out slowly.

On average, incomes fall behind by nearly 15% over 15 years.

For the U.S., this is a cost of about $13k per person per year. Over a lifetime, that's million bucks.
