For National Library Workers Day, this library worker is sharing some of my favorite notes that people have left in my libraries over the years.

This was returned inside a graphic novel we apparently had missed some graffiti in. It lives on my office wall in a frame now.

Sharing a practice of reading with children is also a practice of listening to children: “What are you thinking about? What are your questions?“ @lalouverouge.bsky.social
The Case for Child Liberation Through Children‘s Books
In troubling the idea of childhood, there is perhaps no better place to go than children’s literature. Children’s literature is where stories of childhood are produced, ostensibly, for children; it…

So saddened by the news that we have lost Alice Wong. It was an honor to know her and learn from her. May the lessons she shared continue to guide us for years to come.

Every time someone’s t-shirt campaign gives my neurodivergent, sensory-spicy brain a v-neck option that keeps fabric from touching my throat — I bless them, and my odds of supporting go up about 75%.

*sigh* that feeling when I’m both glad we can help and also despondent that we market ourselves in line with upholding oppressive capitalistic norms. An all-too-familiar feeling in public libraries, unfortunately.
Libraries are an office away from the office. That means library users have an office they can use anywhere they go!

Imagine if a student can pay $20/month to be able to say to their computer, "Please log in to Canvas for me and complete all the assignments due today."

That might be the case as of today if OpenAI's agent is allowed to access learning management systems.

Yet we can't abandon online learning.

Avoid the violence/nonviolence debate. It’s a trap.

The only thing that matters is what actions lead to more justice and less harm.

Inaction and complicity in the face of brutal oppression is the worst form of violence. Never forget it.

Many librarians are not lawyers, but we are great at getting into the weeds; and, despite our public reputation, we are actually bad at being quiet about almost anything.

This is so bad for so, so many reasons. And good luck explaining those reasons without any of the vocabulary that’s now verboten in federal research — words like climate, bias, equity, inclusion, and climate (included twice because !!).
