We can't talk about what's going on without talking about the deplorable state of law enforcement in this country and Democrats can't do that until they discard reflexive rhetoric like "Of course we have to respect the police." No we don't! Not when they act like this! And you should say it!

Actually we have a tool for that already! It's called thinking. We use our brain. It's called brainstorming! Clue is in the name.

Once took a woman on a second date to see Funny Games. About halfway through she put in her earbuds and quit watching the movie, we had an incredibly awkward silent drive back to her place where I meekly apologized for not knowing what exactly that movie was. There was no third date.
Here’s a fun distraction what’s the worst movie you’ve watched on a date? Mine is a tie between “Hidden Colors” and “La La Land.”

This is an extremely silly argument as you cannot fix any problems or move forward at all unless you realize "capitalism is bad" is at the root of all social problem you want to fix or move forward from
The entire point of the centrist position is that extreme ideology produces bad information and incorrect analysis.

And this is true! If every situation leads you to conclude "capitalism is bad" or "big government is bad," you can't fix problems or move forward.

an important thing to remember as The Cool Zone looms: the most egregious recent violent and militarized crackdown -- at places like UCLA and Columbia -- was done under democrats with the full support of democrats. they aint gonna help

Always important to remember that killer cops are nearly always people who have committed multiple abuses previously and would have already been drummed out of any occupation with even minimal standards
Nearly three years before the Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on George Floyd as he cried that he couldn’t breathe, Zoya Code found herself in a similar position: handcuffed facedown on the ground, with Chauvin’s knee on her. Code said she began pleading: “Don’t kill me.”

They describe an officer quick to use force and callous about their pain.

gonna just be the millionth person to say: we in the US should indeed be mad that our electoral choices have been narrowed down to "genocide abroad is fine" vs "don't settle for genocide abroad when we could also have internment camps here". but neither Palestinians nor their supporters put you here

Quite the opposite, I'd say this is yet another win for vulgar Marxism. While all the nuance fetishists have been insisting capital would never cut its own legs off just for such a short-sighted gain, us vulgarians have long noted they would do this if they could
The biggest addendum to Marxist theory i think should be added is the somewhat banal observation that sometimes the capitalist rulling class is made up of human individuals who can be as or more stupid than the rest of us
just saying: it's possible that "I'm gonna dramatically constrict my state capacity while plotting dramatic imperial expansion, and expanding my set of internal enemies while alienating most of my foreign allies" is the beginning of a world-historical masterstroke. but also possible that it isn't

People like Stancil like to comfort themselves with the idea that prisoners in the US are all bad people who deserve it while everyone in prison in China is an innocent. But what he’s written here is a literal description of our mass incarceration
as bad as these things are - very, very bad! - they’re still distinct from a giant system of internment camps built specifically to house millions of members of a despised ethnic minority that are being systematically erased by the state as a formal matter of policy. we’re not very close to that yet

Absolutely begging liberals to understand how political change happens. Literally no political progress in this nation has ever happened without violence. It's fine to dislike violence (I'm not a huge fan myself), but this kind of hand wringing is just apolitical, ahistorical nonsense
All of the people cheering on Luigi and saying that he did nothing wrong when he executed a premeditated murder make me really uncomfortable. Once you say that he’s justified, I can’t trust that you aren’t going to say political violence against more people is justified, and that’s a real bad path.

It's good to use language people know/understand, but it's also good to push people to learn knew things and expand the words they know/understand. Many of today's "common sense phrasings" were once the wildly leftist out-of-touch buzzwords condemned by exactly this sort of person.
We’ve had some great feedback on our report on Progressive Activists and are keen to work with orgs that want to get the best from progressive workforces. Though I’ve seen a handful of people have interpreted what we’re saying as progressives need to be more centrist and wanted to respond to that. 🧵
Today @moreincommonuk.bsky.social
releases a deep dive into Progressive Activists, the most liberal/left leaning segment of the public. It looks at who this highly engaged group are, what they believe but also why their approach maybe leading to backlash against progressive causes.
