The BBC is the latest part of ‘the public realm’ to feel the wrath of the right.

The playbook is wearyingly similar.

Underfund them. Hold them (piously) to the highest standards. Pillory them for all errors. And then co-opt, or neuter, them. 1/2

Can't disagree with Gavin Barwell. It's high time the right in this country cleaned house.

They won't though, because this is what the right have become. The likes of Barwell are very much a minority.

Trump says Putin has “let me down”.

The whole thing is an important read.

But the second paragraph (in particular) is a tiny masterclass in constructing a line of argument.

I’m old enough to remember when Conservative Party leaders believed in law and order.
Kemi Badenoch refusing to acknowledge that Tommy Robinson is "far-right", now on LBC, and refusing to condemn Elon Musk's words. In fact she says what Musk said *isn't* incitement. So what would be incitement then? How violent would his words have to be before he was deemed a threat to this country?

funny how if you give "legitimate concerns" a poke they quickly turn into "organised fascist intimidation"
"Would you say that this is entirely grassroots?"

Man putting up flags in Lichfield: "Yes.."

"Do you support Tommy Robinson?"

"Yes, massively"

"So are you affiliated with him?"

"I was with him last night, yes. He gave me these flags"

Been working on and off with Kotlin Multiplatform for the last few weeks.

Building on the work of Jetpack Compose is, IMHO, a smart decision. It's good that things like state management exist out of the box, something that the Flutter world apparently loves to re-invent.

Angry at insinuations that judges who granted or overturned Epping injunction were politically biased. I've known both Cons & Lab lawyers who've become judges. Whatever their previous politics they take seriously their judicial oath to do justice without fear or favour

4/ The seating chart is the smoking gun: Trump was flanked by Treasury Secretary Bessent and Commerce Secretary Lutnick alongside his security team.

This wasn’t Ukraine-focused. The economic officials’ prominence confirms that sanctions relief and trade deals were central to Trump’s agenda.

After much deliberation, I think I'm going to give Kotlin & CMP a go for a mobile client app.

The worst case of it not working out is having to implement the iOS API using Swift UI.

Compared to the route of Dart + Flutter, which I was going 2 take, I'd suggest this is a far safer route to take.

It's time to consider whether to continue with the assumption that the mobile client is going to be written with Flutter/Dart or, instead, consider a shift over to Kotlin.

Personally, I've never been a fan of Dart, and it seems that every time I load up an existing Flutter project, it never works.

Morning, America.

This is what it looks like to have a President spend millions of taxpayer dollars to play golf in Scotland while his party guts healthcare and food programs.

(And on a point of golf etiquette, only a galactic piece of shit walks off & refuses to get his own ball from the hole)

The British trade deal wasn't what they said it was, the Vietnamese are still yet to confirm Trump's announcement, and the Japanese say they're not signing a binding agreement. The White House has released the text of ZERO (0) deals, and maybe it's all just social media posts all the way down.
"Japanese officials said there was no written agreement with Washington — and no legally binding one would be drawn up", and surprise surprise, they deny giving Trump $550b to arbitrarily spend however he wants. www.ft.com/content/c118...

Petition: Retain legal right to assessment and support in education for children with SEND
Support in education is a vital legal right of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). We ask the government to commit to maintaining the existing law, so that vulnerable children with SEND can access education and achieve their potential.
