Ghosts of the Remnant
Abstract The book of Jeremiah is well-known for the aporias and fractures within its text, which are much discussed. In Jeremiah 39–44 these confusions appear as indicative of two antagonistic communi...

I *do not* approve of remaking Kind Hearts and Coronets, so I think it's quite smart that they are absolutely not marketing this as that

lol, I’ve won the right to buy tickets for the Oval Test next year, but I’m hardly sure I want to drop £100+ on a day of English cricket right now 🏏

Can I just recommend that you don't spill a 500ml tub of double cream all over your kitchen floor. A literal nightmare.

As we come to the annual bric-a-brac, I am once again tempted to paraphrase Tamsin Greig in Black Books

‘Good gosh, I do sell a lot of crap’

So, now England have had a proper warm up game, do we think they’re ready for the Ashes? 🏏

I guess it turns out the final innings of the Oval test was just a scene setter for the Ashes.

“Davis Tafler happened to be nearby, intact, and wearing a suit” seems to be as good a way to select government members as any other right now.

I am seriously and professionally for forgiveness and the possibility of redemption, but that doesn’t mean I have to *like* Steve Smith
steve smith, you scored 17 on your specialist subject, "getting hit by jofra archer"

I wake up, I check the cricket score, and once again I ask ‘why all the questioning of Ollie Pope’s place, when Zack Crawley is right the heck there?’

Among other things, this morning. Dear life.

I’m not sure any of this is new news, but it’s vaguely nice to have it officially written out like this.

I will say, as I have started doing this consultation, it seems to assume that the proposals will happen or that you’re broadly on board with them. I have yet to find a box for ‘this is morally repulsive put it in the bin’

Me, proudly: I’m gonna preach Christ the King without mentioning Roman emperors!
Me, a half hour later, meditating on crowns and laurel wreaths: Oh, no. No I’m not gonna do that.

I’m in a coffee shop in Paris that is playing Breakfast at Tiffany’s (the song). What a a delightful flashback

I am so bored of all the Ashes discourse. Just play cricket already.

Spent a few minutes sat today in the Moses chapel at Notre Dame, transfixed by this piece, given the utterly garbage anti-migrant policy the British government are putting forward.

I’m very grateful to Anderson for speaking out so effectively. I’m sure he is not the only Bishop, and certainly not the only Christian, who will be repelled by the tone and the effect of the disastrous posturings of what I had thought was a Labour government. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

The idea that jewellery might be confiscated to ‘pay for costs’ which has apparently been mooted makes me want to hurl.
Indentured servitude as government policy? Great! Great news!!
Watching the Mahmood announcement and debate. Tory backbencher (Karen Bradley) suggests putting refugees into debt and making them repay during the rest of their lives. Mahmood says she’ll think about it.

From the Times, about our Home Secretary:

"Mahmood is said to have been inspired by Trump’s homeland security secretary, Kristi Noem, who has overseen the president’s mass deportation policy."
