The BBC is the latest part of ‘the public realm’ to feel the wrath of the right.

The playbook is wearyingly similar.

Underfund them. Hold them (piously) to the highest standards. Pillory them for all errors. And then co-opt, or neuter, them. 1/2

I've always felt that for quite a few of their voters they have some misty eyed view of the good old days from when they were a kid, and how things were supposedly always better then. I'm not sure how stocks and floggings fit into this 50s view of Britain.

Given the additional post Brexit friction, both financial and administrative, for UK students looking to study in certain EU countries, I imagine the number going to the EU will be even less.

The reference to Thatcher's reductions is, IMHO, slightly disingenuous. To quote Christopher Johnson's book on the economy under Thatcher, "The curbs on public expenditure made the UK a country of private affluence and public squalor".

The likes of Musk & Zuckerberg somehow think community notes are the answer, whereas they are the online equivalent of a print correction appearing days later on page 21 as an answer to a clue in the crossword.

But spreading shite serves their objectives; they just don't care.

Can't disagree with Gavin Barwell. It's high time the right in this country cleaned house.

They won't though, because this is what the right have become. The likes of Barwell are very much a minority.

I often wonder why more isn't made of this. Irrespective of anyone's views on immigration, there is going to be a severe crunch due to this; it really isn't up for debate.

The whole thing is an important read.

But the second paragraph (in particular) is a tiny masterclass in constructing a line of argument.

I’m old enough to remember when Conservative Party leaders believed in law and order.
Kemi Badenoch refusing to acknowledge that Tommy Robinson is "far-right", now on LBC, and refusing to condemn Elon Musk's words. In fact she says what Musk said *isn't* incitement. So what would be incitement then? How violent would his words have to be before he was deemed a threat to this country?

The Justice Department has removed a study from its website which found that "the number of far-right attacks continues to outpace all other types of terrorism and domestic violent extremism”, CNN reports.

It is weird that the assassination of essentially a celebrity influencer is a bigger deal than the shooting of two top state legislators + their spouses

funny how if you give "legitimate concerns" a poke they quickly turn into "organised fascist intimidation"
"Would you say that this is entirely grassroots?"

Man putting up flags in Lichfield: "Yes.."

"Do you support Tommy Robinson?"

"Yes, massively"

"So are you affiliated with him?"

"I was with him last night, yes. He gave me these flags"

Similarly, the ability to interact with native APIs without a convoluted in-between layer in between is good.

So far, I've found that once a 1st compilation has been successful for a particular target, from then onwards compilation speeds are pretty quick.

Been working on and off with Kotlin Multiplatform for the last few weeks.

Building on the work of Jetpack Compose is, IMHO, a smart decision. It's good that things like state management exist out of the box, something that the Flutter world apparently loves to re-invent.

Angry at insinuations that judges who granted or overturned Epping injunction were politically biased. I've known both Cons & Lab lawyers who've become judges. Whatever their previous politics they take seriously their judicial oath to do justice without fear or favour

Moreover, some schools in the private sector don't want to take on a student with an EHCP. Personally had the experience of some schools in the NorthWest discriminating against prospective students with an EHCP. An EHCP for us has been a doubled-edged sword.
