It’s wild, absolutely wild, how for EVERY. SINGLE. CITY. Trump wants to militarize I can post data showing how crime is plummeting in all of them without any federal invasion…

… and the press KEEPS stenographing the naked bad-faith claims about “fighting crime!” in the headlines.

Infuriating.
Giant YTD drops in Chicago for basically all crimes.

Huge 4-reductions in Chicago for all violence. Murders are down FIFTY PERCENT.

Property crimes are dropping, tho still higher than before. But MRAPs don’t stop theft.

This is all pretext. Yet the WaPo subhed frames it as a “crime” issue.

Those entrusted to enforce our Congress’s laws sit, simply watching this happen, flaccid and impotent.

I strongly think more people need to be writing about the culture shift toward anti-autonomy and anti-humanism and how that plays out in the entwined cultures of technology, fascism, and the religious right, but also its cultivation in popular culture more broadly
A good essay would put this next to evangelical Christianity which suggests freedom is making yourself a “slave to god” - outsourcing all decisions to your pastor
Life is a continuous series of burdensome choices. True freedom comes when you give yourself over to the algorithm.

People keep asking me what Land Back looks like. Imma hold this up as a great example.
The Miccosukee Tribe helped stop Alligator Alcatraz, being constructed on their land!

Late yesterday, a federal judge ruled Miccosukee citizens must be able to “access to the site consistent with the access they enjoyed before the erection of the detention camp.”

Remember how they kept telling us Chinese companies have to be banned because maybe someday China could use a law to access our data? Well here it is now, but from the biggest threat to Canadian sovereignty.

I expect prompt government action. (Yeah right.)

Extraordinary new detail about the FBI purge.
*Senior officials were asked to fire lower level officials tagged by online right wingers as being anti-Trump.
*When they asked for a reason - required by law - they were not given any. They refused. Then they were fired.

My job as a professor is not to create a serviceable worker. My job is to help foster thoughtful citizens or community members.

If that sounds fanciful it’s bc corporate interests have spent decades framing how we talk about education so they don’t take the heat for immiserating labor conditions.
Do not accept the premise that education is to blame for abysmal jobs outcomes.

“The fantasy economy's framing of economic inequality… focuses exclusively on education…deflects attention away from decades of public policies and changing business practices that have…contributed to stagnating wages”

more and more people will just be houseless in a endless cycle of bulldozed or confiscated tents, and jail and illness. what they will be forced to do to survive?

people will get sick of having to see any evidence of who we’ve left behind. where will people have to go? will we just let them die?
Without insurance only the ultra wealthy will survive disasters. As more places become uninsurable in the US, ever more people will be forced into poverty after each hurricane season, wildfire season, tornado season, etc.
