Mark Carney is a neoliberal banker who cynically used hockey tropes to get us Canadians excited about voting for him out of desperation because his opponent cynically uses racism to get ahead. Hard not to feel like we’re hosed, eh? Take a long look at @avilewis.ca and @heathermcpherson.bsky.social
Mark Carney did not join NATO allies in signing this joint statement reaffirming the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Denmark and Greenland:
Joint statement on Greenland signed by the leaders of 🇫🇷🇩🇪🇮🇹🇵🇱🇪🇸🇬🇧🇩🇰

"Greenland belongs to its people. It is for Denmark and Greenland, and them only, to decide on matters concerning Denmark and Greenland."

The level of indifference to this massive annual toll among both the public and the majority of my public health colleagues is stunning.

We need to be asking if PM Carney is really interested in & prepared to defend Canada. The Canadian govt's wait-&-see approach is foolhardy as the US has clearly said it plans to run Venezuela for its oil & that Greenland could be next.
What a remarkable statement, that Ottawa wants to wait and see if the US invades Mexico or Greenland. If they do, what then? How will Ottawa change its strategy?
We’ve known for a year that the US is now unabashedly imperialist & authoritarian.

It’s what’s crazy about everything the United States is doing. They managed to construct a *global* sphere of influence on the cheap (relatively speaking), and now that’s gone.
The lesson: Domination is an end unto itself. That’s what the Trumpists want.
What is just crazy about this, aside from the need for this statement at all, is that Greenland already IS in the US sphere of influence. It's far cheaper for the US, in material, security, and reputational terms, to have Denmark continue administering Greenland and work within NATO on security.

The Pentagon got involved because Washington is trying to end its dependence on China for critical minerals.

Hey, maybe some of those critical minerals will be involved in Trump's army annexing Greenland. Or us.

Silicon Valley’s alliance with Donald Trump was a mask off moment and showed the world we can’t depend on US tech companies.

For the past few months, I’ve been trying to get off US tech and I put together a guide so you find alternatives too. I hope you find it helpful!

“Survey after survey has shown that business owners overestimate how many customers drive to their stores vs walking or biking. In a 2012 Los Angeles study, more than half of the store owners on the bike-laned part of the boulevard thought most of their customers drove. The actual number was 15%.”
I read all the studies on the economic impact of bike lanes. Here's what I learned.
Research proves that bike lanes are good for business. So why do so many stores and restaurants still oppose them?

Elon Musk posted sexualized images of children on X.

X also boosted antivaxx rhetoric; infecting, hospitalizing and killing children.
