this rocks. when indiana edu killed the student newspaper, Purdue stepped up, printed the forbidden issue, drove it to Bloomington and stocked the boxes.

Me, age 10: teams should draft the cool players I see on TV

every analyst the last twenty years: draft prep is incredibly complex. it's more art than science; you can give your life to it and still miss

Super Bowl Champion Howie Roseman: okay idiots! Time to draft the cool players I see on TV

Just like anti-vaxers, people who dislike immigrants are a weird terrible fringe group and we should treat them like the weird terrible fringe group they are.

Immigrants are a social good, anti-immigrant propaganda is basically all lies, and any approach to the "problem" that doesn't start form those two points is worthless

You can’t be justifying your own pessimism about other Americans like this when we’ve got polling data that says every time a spotlight gets shined on deportation or detention, the polling for Trump on that issue takes a huge hit.

The repression of trans people is not, by and large, a grassroots outpouring of hatred from the American people. It's something that's been carefully planted and tended over years by a handful of media people and their pet reporters.
Heightened Scrutiny, a very good doc about the Supreme Court case that was just ruled on, does an impeccable and infuriating job laying out just how culpable the NYT and Atlantic are for the nation’s transphobia www.avclub.com/sundance-202...

We've seen this from anti-vaxxers and other conspiracy movements for years: Act like frothing-at-the-mouth psychos and then accuse scientists of conspiracy for behaving like they're being targeted by frothing-at-the-mouth psychos.

wow I wonder if the cops who lied about the sitting senator even though everything they did was on tape are also being less than honest about the presence of violent agitators at the protests in los angeles. they might even not have told the entire truth about other protests

The Park City ski patrol strike is an incredible story. Some of the richest, most privileged people in America, inconvenienced at their time of great leisure by their good pals in private equity who don't want to pay a decent salary to the workers who keep them from dying lost in the snow
The Logic Of Private Equity Explains The Park City Ski Patrol Strike | Defector
Rarely does a labor fight facilitate such rich, obvious imagery, but the Park City strike provided: A disgusted Twitter user’s camera shows a cluster of skiers massing at the base of a lift, huddled i...

the most effective governance america has had in the last fifty years or so was the days when everybody wanted to flee the capitol before they got covid so they passed massive and highly effective relief bills (which also came with a ton of corruption, but them's the breaks)
the capitol needs to be like wall street where they hit the end of the day and everyone goes home so we can write about wtf just happened before trading hours start up again

Writing is thinking.

It’s not a part of the process that can be skipped; it’s the entire point.
This is what's so baffling about so many suggestions for AI in the humanities classroom: they mistake the product for the point. Writing outlines and essays is important not because you need to make outlines and essays but because that's how you learn to think with/through complex ideas.
I'm sure many have said this before but I'm reading a student-facing document about how students might use AI in the classroom (if allowed) and one of the recs is: use AI to make an outline of your reading! But ISN'T MAKING THE OUTLINE how one actually learns?

It’s genuinely shocking if you’re remotely familiar with the basic facts of trans care and youth medicine.

It is *profoundly* difficult to access gender-affirming care as a minor and the Times has printed more than a dozen articles implying that it is too easy.
in hindsight the NYT anti-trans crusade is one of the most despicable things that any big time journalism outfit in this country has ever done. a perfect and clearly intentional layup for the fascists on the Supreme Court

this is why i think THE BEEKEEPER is the closest thing we have right now to a modern day DEATH WISH.
I feel like I am enjoying The Beekeeper way too much because the type of villains he's tracking down/meting out justice is driving it. If it was just some ordinary corrupt millionaire it wouldn't be half as good.

a lot of the scummy Republican and religious right horseshit around trans people's rights to exist is the fact that their disgusting little sect is full of people who are awful parents, relatives and friends who don't know how to talk to people and won't learn anything about basic human decency
