Today on Volts: the subset of cleantech known as "electrotech" -- solar, batteries, heat pumps, etc. -- is marching toward inevitable victory, not because it's low-emissions (though it is), but because it's more efficient & cheaper. I discuss the good news with @kingsmillbond.bsky.social.
Clean electrification is inevitable
Kingsmill Bond explains why the global march of "electrotech" has moved beyond the reach of US political interference.

This actually came up in WA when Matt Shea was found to have actively played both sides of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge occupation/standoff. Ultimately the house GOP leader booted him from the caucus and he declined to run for reelection.
you are entitled to a day in court with respect to whether or not you go to prison. you are not entitled to a day in court with respect to whether or not you get to keep holding federal office and indeed the prior occupant of this very congressional seat is an example of why (1/2)
I don't think Congress should be able to expel reps from office who were *democratically elected by their constituents* without at least having their day in court.

Some tongues were made to praise God. Some tongues were made to sing. Some were made for poetry, some for prose, some to agitate and some to soothe.

But some tongues were made for the boot.

Antisemitism is a lot like Qanon child abuse conspiracies in that there’s this real and bad phenomenon and, parallel to that, what can only be described as a large scale mass psychosis about a mostly fictional version of the same phenomenon

Listening to @unclearpod.bsky.social and something that occurred to me is that while technically it came out in 2001 Behind Enemy Lines seems like a kind of a quintessential 90s movie about that brief period where it seemed like the US might become a semi-benevolent hegemon.

This has been an absolute delight, though, and so thoroughly enjoyable with just so much libelous material to paint with. I was wrong. Everyone who was pushing for the files was right. Not everyone, but basically everyone in good will demanding it. This shit is awesome.

god i desperately hope that maybe one positive that can come out of all of this muck is a newly renewed understanding of the virtues of immigration in a country that has benefited immensely from them, but lost it's understanding of it.

This is me too. I've spent a lot of my adult life thinking we just needed common sense cooperation and incremental improvement and now im basically willing to tell the entire admin and GOP establishment to face the wall.
You seem in general like a pretty temperamentally middle-of-the-road moderate guy who believes in numbers and data, so it's quite telling that even you seem to be going full Jacobin

Man the end of the wars of Spanish American independence is just so depressing. Spain is gone and all everyone can do is fight each other, coup each other, and die in exile.

I think an underrated consequence of this is that there is absolutely going to be a death toll from people switching from flying to driving long distances in late November.
We may hit 20% of all flights cancelled quickly because of the shutdown and delays are skyrocketing

Of all the things David Weber could have nailed its the existence of real life North Hollow Files.
johnson is also fucking terrified of what's in these files and is willing to keep the house on permanent vacation to prevent their disclosure, and that's becoming obvious to even the most checked-out median voter
Speaker Johnson is officially keeping the House in recess again next week. This will be the eighth consecutive week the House has been out of session. The chamber hasn't met since Sept. 19. Adelita Grijalva, who was elected on Sept. 23, has not been sworn in.

This is the semi-common reddit phenomenon of semi-obscure communities making it to the front page or /bestof
like periodically I will see people post about something they find gross or offensive, and they're not necessarily even wrong. "I think people talk about sex a lot in ways that discomfort me." That's valid! but also, you may actually be seeing into a different subcommunity w/different norms
