imo you can't train an AI to have a long dark night of the soul
War is horrible, and a tragedy that damages everyone involved. The best possible way to honour the victims of war is to devote ourselves to finding ways to avoid ever fighting another war.

I kind of want to go to the rave at the mid-block 7-Eleven in Riverdale?
The folks at IntegrityTO have finally weighed in on neighbourhood retail with AI generated scenes of creepy faceless loiterers congregating outside a 7-11…

Mind you the recommendation (that didn’t make it past committee) was for *corner lots*. They can’t even prompt right.

Today I'm thinking about what "Lest we forget" actually means, and wondering if people would recognize it if it showed up again with slightly different superficial markers.

"problematic" fell victim to this too
Has “performative” become the new “liminal” in that it’s a term that is very useful but its misuse on social media is rendering it difficult to use

It absolutely rules that Joyce Carol Oates was like "Elon Musk has never watched a movie, never read a book, never grieved the loss of a friend or celebrated the success of somebody he loves..."

And Musk's reaction is "Actually, I've loved some movies."

Maybe it's the Heritage Minute that convinced a generation of Canadians to fear the smell of burnt toast, because it (falsely) led us to believe that it might be a sign of an impending seizure...? www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUOG...

If you're making single-pitch wagers you're fucked.
Following this weekend’s indictments of Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz, MLB has announced that, in collaboration with major sports books, single pitch wagers are being capped at $200 and excluded from all parlays:

I wrote about this too. Why isn’t Ontario hitting the barricades in rage? We’ve so little lake access. Entirely privatized shorelines. You could give the province away to oligarchs & people would be meh. Thx to Fatima for calling this early on.

Do you ever think about how no previous generation in human history devoted as much attention to following and commenting on the minute-by-minute news of the world?

What if we're not actually accomplishing anything by engaging with this kind of granular detail? What if it's making is angry and sad?

The problem is not primarily about the technology, exactly.

The problem is about the darkness in people's souls, and how they are choosing to use the technology as a result.

This is a much more difficult problem to solve.

The American voters were pretty dumb on this one!
To repeat: Maybe electing a life-long criminal to an office where he can pardon other criminals wasn't such a good idea.
