So excited to see this volume now out: an exceptional group of philosophers scrutinising a wide array of historical figures on the empathetic emotions, very adeptly edited by Keith Ansell-Pearson & David James. My chapter looks at Husserl and Stein's work on empathy(1/3)

15 years - if you're e.g. a nurse, or a teacher

Labour's two tier system which rewards high earners and insults those who work just as hard but don't earn as much - really sad to see Labour fall

A few days ago Starmer & Mahmoud were trying to justify their fascistic refugee policy with reference to Denmark's Social Democratic Party.

Yesterday the Danish SD Party did SO BADLY in the Copenhagen local elections that it lost control of the capital for the 1st time since 1903.

As UK Labour drag themselves unimaginably far into the gutter by apeing the very worst aspects of Danish politics, I'm feeling all the more enthused to cast my vote for Enhedslisten (Red-Green Alliance) in the elections in Denmark today

The UK outright engaged in stationary banditry, stealing from the poor to give to the rich, all in order to appease the most petty xenophobe bigots on earth. And I feel sure it won't even work on the Home Secretary's terms, ultimately all this will strengthen not weaken Reform.
The Sun has been told Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will on Monday propose confiscating jewellery, watches, necklaces from asylum seekers to meet asylum costs

This reflects the most controversial aspect of the Danish scheme - the Jewellery Law. The toughest Labour MPs thought this was OTT

Developing story, but my current view (subject to change as we learn more): 🧵Trump wanted Hamas to accept his proposal, but Israel wanted them to reject it. Israel pushed for conditions that would make a Hamas rejection more likely. But that gambit has failed.

What was as striking (pardon the pun) as the strike itself was how enthusiastic and chill all the inconvenienced people seemed to be. I got where I needed to go about five hours later than scheduled. Everyone I spoke to along the way said the delays were worth it.

The problem here is the limitations of viewing "racism" as individual pathology rather than a structural historical force. Doing the former is to fall into a political trap that Reform will always win. Doing the latter implicates Labour too, as it should.

Dehumanisation as policy.
It ignores people's actual lives and experiences in favour of some sick idea that migrants are just resources to be used and discarded at will.
It is incredible how Labour has become, in practice, the most anti-immigration government in decades.

This is beyond Trump’s now familiar scammy marketing of crypto, NFTs etc. He appears to have posted a deepfake AI video of himself legislating for human-body-regenerating “medbeds” – which don’t exist – though I don’t even think it’s his scam to profit from financially.
Trump tonight appears to have pushed the false "medbed" conspiracy theory, which has spread in the far-right internet over the years. www.yahoo.com/news/qanon-c...

This is appalling as expected from a strategically, politically and ethically bankrupt Labour leadership

All Starmer offers is a slightly less extreme version of the far right which only ends up normalising its discourse, allowing it to set the agenda
“The belief that uncontrolled legal migration was nothing but good news for an economy should never have been accepted on the Left,” writes Starmer “fighting” populism. What does even mean “uncontrolled” in the case of legal migration? www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/f9444c6...
The Left ignored immigration fears for too long. It’s time to give communities back control
Only a plan for patriotic national renewal led by Labour will counter the rise of the populist Right
