Alien: Earth does a lot of things I love, it’s stylish, it’s dripping with atmosphere, it gets weird in some fun ways. (I would love for Timothy Olyphant’s Kirsh to be my disappointed android dad.)

But it seems either completely unaware of its best ideas, or afraid to engage them.
‘Alien: Earth’ is Terrified of its Own Queerness
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to write about Alien: Earth one episode at a time or just wait until the season wraps. But four episodes in—halfway through its eight-episode run—the show feels like it’s fin...

Even the photography speaks to that weird fashy nostalgia. The shallow, grainy depth of field in what could easily be a park or backyard, the slightly warm color grading. Compare to the way the editor of British Vogue (Chioma Nnadi) was styled and shot in 2024.

I hate this culture shift so hard, part: a lot.
I don’t say this to be mean, but that’s a 1950s house dress.

She’s the new editor of American Vogue, so we can assume that the dress and its lack of styling was a conscious decision. A conscious decision to go housewife, traditional, white, and unimaginative.

It’s very sad, all around.

Almost like recusal being voluntary is a bad idea
An examination of more than 1,200 federal judges and state supreme court justices turned up dozens of judges who chose not to recuse when facing potential appearances of impropriety involving familial financial connections.

Many Judges Choose Not to Recuse When Big Cases Intersect With Their Families’ Interests
Ambiguous — and unenforced — recusal standards mean few checks and balances for top judges when cases involve their family members.
