"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Resentful that it requires such extreme focus for me to write a whole ass book these days, but delighted it DOES hapeen. I've def gotten better at not only seeing what doesn't work, but identifying why, and also how to fix it. "If you're keeping the character for x, you'll need to link them to y."

I’ve been writing about politics in some capacity for over 25 years now and it’s still stunning how the mainstream media refuses to tell the public basic truth

Global warming caused by humans is an observed fact. Yes, science still needs to learn more, but it's no more in overall doubt than the theory of gravity. And it's bad. Willful ignorance, enforced by those who choose to deny science, is an existential threat to our civilization.

Whenever I start writing something new, there's this weird sort of block of "how do I do this again?" And I wonder if it'll come together enough for me to write. But then it "just happens" after throwing ideas at it for a while, turning into something I didn't see coming and it's always pretty cool

That deafening silence is the collective roar of every free speech absolutist staying quiet while the government tells us what to say, what art is appropriate, who deserves to be on TV, and what books your kids can read.

If you choose to be a writer, you will fail. And that's okay. It's the sticking around despite those failures that will define your "career" - whether it be amateur or professional.

It turns out that protecting hate speech did not create the conditions to protect other kinds of speech; instead, it protected hate and allowed hate movements to take over all the institutions of that might have defended the rest of us.

We're definitely entering an era where the Internet is so hollowed out, so untrustworthy and compromised, that real world interactions, things identifiably done by human beings, will take on greater value and purpose.

People posting about how they’ve never seen em dashes used before the rise of ChatGPT are really great at telling folks they’ve never read a book before.

You don’t “learn” from a chatbot. You consume. There’s a difference.

They’re spewing slop and people are gobbling it up (and eroding their intelligence in the process).

Misinformation is everywhere. Please don’t rely on a chatbot for anything important.

They can’t replace real human connection

Not all writing happens at your desk. Thinking, planning, noticing, asking questions, reading, researching, dreaming - all can be part of the process.

The queries have started about “What if I only used a little bit of AI for my story submission.”
The answer is, fuck AI. Uncanny Magazine doesn't want your story. There is no grey area here. Send us a story using AI for any aspect, it will be auto-rejected and you will be banned. Period.

We need to make it illegal for AI models to offer advertising. And, we need to really examine referral fees as well.

The last thing we need is to have algorithms designed to maximize revenue driving LLM output and interactions.

We need to have learned our lessons from algos in social media
