The thing about cruelty and inhumanity is that the limits of who is affected keep expanding and expanding until we shove it back the other way

I think I'm just going to have a plate of freezer eggrolls - the tiny ones - for dinner. Positive indicator or negative ? Who knows.

Just tried to login to Lyft to look at some receipts. Had to go grab the code that they texted me and then agree to a new TOS only to be greeted with this. Why allow logins on the web at all then???

Rich people are not entitled to a private audience with politicians just because they happen to be rich.
Canadian multimillionaire and Shark Tank guy Kevin O'Leary went on TV to say he's upset Zohran won't talk to him: "I and others who invest in real estate have tried to get a meeting to figure out what's rhetoric and what's policy. So far for me it's been crickets."

I'm not linking to that NYT piece today, but of all the horrible parts of it, this was the worst. This was an explanation of "female vices" in the workplace and LET ME JUST TELL YOU...

I often need graphic assets or templates for work or personal projects. You can purchase these on sites like creativemarket, envato, creative fabrica, etsy etc. AI slop has now taken over most of these spaces - low effort, low quality garbage.

Seems to always boil down to whether or not you think poor people deserve pleasure or if you think an appropriate punishment for being poor is hunger, malnutrition, and misery.
"What should poor people be allowed to eat?" seems to be a burning question for those who aren't poor, have never been poor, and can afford to eat what they like, but want to keep poor people from eating anything that tastes really good. "No fresh meat," said Iowa, a few years ago.

Yup, AI is definitely a technology that you want to trust your customers to .. let's integrate it into EVERYTHING!
When you email issues to Obsidian Entertainment (the video game company) their AI support hallucinates and tells you to email Obsidian (the note-taking company) instead.

If the reward function is to reduce the number of touches in a support ticket, this is one way to do it.

I think what’s been most unsettling about the genAI era has been realizing that most people seem to be satisfied with sloppy impersonations of creativity, and indeed don’t really seem to be able to tell the difference. And as it turns out that also applies to the news

Can't lie, I love butter chicken .. but I've never met an Indian dish I didn't like.

Absolute, undenyable S teir cuisine.
As restaurants serving Indian cuisines continue to become some of the hottest reservations across the country, I wrote for @slate.com about their uneasy relationship to butter chicken. Or really, their uneasy relationship to what butter chicken has come to represent. slate.com/life/2025/10...
Many Indian Chefs Want to Banish One Beloved Dish From Their Menus. Getting Rid of It Isn’t So Easy.
How did such a “basic” stew become so controversial?
