"I did not leave the Labour Party to create another Labour Party" says woman standing in front of some burning wreckage set on fire by petty factionalism
Sultana drew parallels to "the Labour right's playbook", including alleged "witch-hunts, smears, intimidation, the bullying, the legal threats and leaks to the Murdoch press" from Corbyn's allies.

She said she "did not leave the Labour Party to create another Labour Party".

Every case study like this should be balanced by one such as a 15-year-old with suicidal ideation unable to receive any help because CAMHS has been cut to virtual non-existence.
Huge respect to the papers for finding both an 88 year old worried about the tax bill on her 6 bedroom Kensington house and a 20 year old fretting about only being able to save £12k a year tax free.
Top work all around. These are not easy case studies to find.

The UK, where the day after a decision to take half a million children out of poverty, the media & political world has been full of sneering at those same children & their families, labelling them as ‘Benefits Street’, while the same people are moaning about a tax on £2m mansions. Shameful stuff.

It's such a bizarre framing. Labour MPs think taking 450k kids out of poverty is putting the country first! That's why they wanted it to happen! It's not because they personally benefit.
Headline on The World at One just now:

"Sir Keir Starmer has denied putting the Labour Party before the country by ending the two-child benefit cap".

Can we please go back to reporting the actual news, not someone's partisan take on it?

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

The basic problem with the temporary refugee status policy - especially one lasting up to 20 years - is it leads to very few removals (based on Denmark's experience) but does significantly worsen integration.

Thinking about my own father, who arrived in 1946 with the Free Polish Army - when would Labour have sent him back to communist Poland? How could he have done anything to build a life and have children in the UK if he had had to beg to stay every two years? Disgusting. www.bbc.com/news/article...
UK set to limit refugees to temporary stays
Shabana Mahmood is expected to say the era of permanent protection for refugees is over, in major changes to the UK's asylum and immigration system.

Question on Monday

Is it now your principle that every Ukranian refugee in Britain should leave, must leave once it is safe + that they will all be made to leave?

Should Gibb be sacked? yes, obviously. He's an abomination of basic journalistic standards. His GB News channel spreads conspiracy theory & disinformation. His Jewish Chronicle newspaper spreads invented stories. He is plainly trying to undermine the BBC so it's as bad as everything else he touches.

Sack the editor of the New York Times every time it writes about boiled mutton.
Maybe Keir should demand the heads of major US news networks any time they imply Britain is on the brink of civil war or that we live under sharia law. Or does it not work both ways?

I keep coming back to Tim Walz's description of Republicans as "weird". Conservative elites ARE weird, and old-fashioned small-c conservatives do not share their wacky vendettas against trans people, diversity on TV, historians of colonialism, etc

With respect what in gods gravy is a “non-militarised European security framework” and how would it stop 300 shahed drones bombing a city
The Green Party condemns Russia’s invasion, backs Ukraine’s sovereignty, and urges peace talks. It opposes NATO expansion and supports replacing NATO with a cooperative, non-militarised European security framework 💚

There is not a single political party or mass movement in Palestine that advocates for this idea. Or in Israel for that matter.

A British politician making such statement is doing imperialism pure and simple. Giving up on an independent Palestinian state is for Palestinians to decide on. Not you.

We take no joy criticising a young left-wing UK political figure who has often spoken up for workers' rights and progressive causes. But these barely coherent comments from Zarah Sultana on Ukraine sum up much of what is wrong with her wing of the left www.instagram.com/reel/DQT62ys...

Don’t give these people benefit of the doubt. This racist rant isn’t an accident. Or ‘speaking out of turn’.

It’s designed to fill our airwaves with people debating ‘if’ non white skin is a problem. Not Reform.

Diversity isn’t the issue, hatred is. Don’t indulge it, vote for it or tolerate it.

If we want to rebuild the defences against authoritarianism (as we should) we'd be better off using the instruments we already have.

Dismantling Henry VIII powers, getting dirty money out of elections, even changing the electoral system could all be done more easily than writing a new constitution.

Conservative Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp repeatedly refusing to say that he thinks Reform MP Sarah Pochin saying she doesn't like seeing black people on TV was racist.

Says he wouldn't use her "language" but it's right for her to express "legitimate concerns" about migration
