There’s a thing in games where people want skill to matter in a very specific way - they want it to be possible for them to beat better player, but impossible for a less good player to beat them.
I feel like the same folks can only imagine a past where they are as well or better off than they are.

For a while, it was believed that women and gay men are born with a natural sense for aesthetics. In reality, straight men, particularly American male Protestants, have simply barred themselves from taking an interest in aesthetics because they think this makes them noble.

When I read people say PDF versions of TTRPGs should be free or only $5 because "you don't have to pay for paper or ink, so there's no cost," what they are saying is, they don't think they should have to compensate writers, artists, layout people, graphic designers, etc for their work.
