The most stressed out I've ever been about Christmas was when I was 16 and I got my first ever job, working at M&S in Dundrum. As soon as I started I kept hearing these myths about the Christmas Eve Waste Sale, where all the food that wasn't sold on the 24th was marked down 90%.

Your annual reminder that if you get this cracker joke and are confused by it, it's apparently because "ffi" is a special character in some fonts and when the typeface is changed to one that doesn't have it, those letters disappear. It's supposed to be "coffin medicine".

As you may know, I have stopped using Twitter, and have decided to reproduce some of my more memorable threads here for posterity. Here’s one I hold wrote after a particularly engaging swordfighting lesson.

Buckle up, swordfighting fans, because I *have* studied my Agrippa!

Might be worthwhile to expand here. So a cursory glance at a Westminster order paper will tell you that there are a /lot/ of votes at Parliament. That's part of why parties have research teams and whips offices, among other things they literally figure out how your MPs should vote on /everything/
It sounds stupid but it's actually extremely easy to do if you are an independent MP without a research team to preadvise you

This is my 6th year posting this same message. Black Friday is a nonsense with often pretend discounts on stuff you probably don’t need. We’ll do as we always do at this time and increase the 1% of all income we give to Women’s Aid to 10% on web sales over the weekend. Fuck Black Friday. #speirgorm

do you have any idea how much you have to piss somebody off to make them change their gauge
#Finland will begin to #Russia - proof its rail network, integrate with EU train infrastructure.

The Finnish government has announced the conversion of its rail network from Russian gauge (1,524 mm) to European standard (1,435 mm).

The thing I despise is inhumanity. It’s not really a political position, it’s an existential one. But if your political party manoeuvres itself into a place where it practises and promotes inhumanity, I will despise you.

The Tory member and former election candidate that Boris Johnson appointed as DG of the BBC in order to make it more right-wing is now not right-wing enough to be DG of the BBC.

Couldn't really ask for a clearer example of the Overton window being pushed rightward, could you?

Someone working on behalf of ICE abused her.

She spoke out and was kicked out of the country.
