30. She/her 🇫🇮

Post art school grad clawing back the joy of art thru making comics about life integrating in a new country. Anti-AI.

If I could, I would hoard huckleberries like a dragon and protect the plants and make sure they are safe and healthy.

Are you 🫵 a twitter refugee? Are you 🫵 an OC artist? Unsure how to switch over to bsky?

Some quickfire tips from a bsky user who didn't use it much when I first joined, and then started using it properly about a year ago!

That moment when you want to revisit an OC idea from college but you can't find what their original design looked like so you have to restart....

One of the central tenets of AI artists is that their refining prompts makes them equal (or even superior) to any artist, analog or digital.

They are so, so close to a breakthrough but they always U-turn just in time to avoid it.
It's a whole genre it's beautiful

Honestly when learning a second language it's hard to have self confidence in my level of understanding and use of the language. Then something happens and I'm like... I should have more self confidence that I understand Finnish more than I think...

don't read them, burn them🔥

any author who uses genAI for cover art, instead of hiring another creative for the job, is a traitor

So my first tip for this is just Read a Lot of Comics. have comics in your bookshelf (real or virtual) that you can flip through for inspiration and see how other artists are working and what/how they fit visuals into a panel. I read a lot of manga on my phone, and every time i see a page that--
Do you have any general tips on how to improve comic layouts/paneling? I want to start making proper comics but paneling is something I really struggle with (especially when it comes to making sure my sketch compilations fit the panel size while still being effective/showing everything I want)

so many cool, inventive and interesting animated projects none of you even knew were being made for the past few years just got shitcanned because of this netflix/wb merger

When you're like "geez there's no animation jobs" "geez there's like no new shows anymore", this is why

if you're one person making a comic by yourself, don't treat yourself like you should function on the same level as comics that have multiple people working on them. your backgrounds can be squiggles and colors.

allow yourself room to be abstract with details and give yourself some grace

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

Always chasing the next "trendy" idea for your art is so exhausting. Always thinking "What could I draw next which will be even more creative and engaging?" is draining every joy of creating. Just ignore all of this. Do what you want to do right now.
