It’s fascinating comparing the front page coverage of the Huntingdon train attack (below) with how the British press treated another case 30 years ago.

I’m referring to the 1995 Netto supermarket attack in Birmingham in which a man stabbed 10 people, killing one of them.

ok, somebody needs to rank the top 10 Great British Grifts of, say, the past 20 years.
Surely it’s more like the canoe man grift than the captain tom one

This is it, the clickbait winner for 2025, no chance of this being beaten.

Absolute must to click this - brilliant, world class, if only there were clickbait awards.

More extraordinary still is the sanitising of Kirk's politics. Kirk was - and this is just a straightforwardly factual statement - a far right activist. And here's a former British Prime Minister not merely mourning his death or condemning his murder but actively *praising* his politics.
We don’t yet know who killed Kirk or why. Not that you’d know it from the endless numbers of accounts on X with huge follower numbers, including British politicians, making as yet unknowable claims about the motivations behind the murder.

Exhibit A. Extraordinary stuff.

ask the rightist co-leader if their movement is based or fascist

she doesn't understand

pull out illustrated diagram explaining what is based and what is fascist

she laughs and says "It's Dark Abundance, sir"

join

it's fascist
Dark Abundance is literally just Fascism, and also these people don’t know what words mean. This whole article is absolutely bonkers.

It's official ONS baby name day!
Here are the names that are dying out
– A mere 9 boys called Norman last year
– Rodney = 8
– Nigel = 5
– Giles = 3
And not a single Piers was registered! (If it's 2 or fewer, it's not released for data reasons, so it's possible 2 were)

There were 161 called Zorawar

Presidentialism, & the post-WWII imperial presidency created by both parties, was a grave mistake. If we make it through this, we need to fundamentally rethink & revise the amount of power one Mad King can arbitrarily exercise on policy issue after policy issue.

I have a simple solution to this. Grade students entirely by means of three hour hand-written exams in a big hall with no computers. If they all fail because they never learned to write without AI, sucks to be them
