Charismatic weeds can teach us a lot about building a better world. Most of the botanical discourse is just PR for empire and a self-soothing grift that makes everything worse. We can have nice things.

All of us at Drop Site News are deeply saddened by the loss of Ahlam Al Nafed, a nurse who spent the last 15 months fearlessly documenting the horrors in northern Gaza. Ahlam was a trusted source, providing detailed reporting, video, and information to Drop Site News and others.

Was just interviewed about the newsletter business and one thing I said was I love paying people on the day a piece is published, not only because it's the right thing to do, but I think of it as a kind of fuck you echoing back through the years to every company that routinely made me wait months.

Imagine if people started commercially killing naturally returning large land-based wild fauna for meat, like wolves, bears, or lynx on the European continent? There would be uproar.

This is NO different. But because fish are marine animals, it's seen by many as fine.

It's totally not.

First time I visited Mississippi I was in a car with @loki-2-go.bsky.social . "Fuck me! That's an armadillo!"
"Oh yeah, they're everywhere, they're a pain"
A minute later she points excitedly "Wow! Look! It's a fox!"
As a byproduct of where I grew up, I think nothing of seeing a basking alligator near a marsh or by a water hazard at a suburban golfing community, but if I ever saw an actual turkey in the wild I’d probably freak the fuck out.
Yesterday, I saw more than ten turkeys hanging around one block! It was crazy. They managed to stop traffic on two different streets at once for a couple of minutes.

Peter Kropotkin and the alley behind my neighborhood gas station
There’s a pedestrian alley in my neighborhood that provides an important link for the low-stress version of my bike commute. The neighborhood, built in the 1950s, has a few of them, but they don’t …

Jim Morrison would have been 81 today; let that sink in !!

You've seen your birth your life and death
You might recall all of the rest
Did you have a good world when you died?
Enough to base a movie on?

I hope today is a day filled with peace and love surrounded by loved ones.

Thinking about everyone experiencing the holiday without a loved one for the first time and those who have to work today just to make ends meet.
