We have such a stupid transportation system in this goofy country that affects every corner of our life.

my mom taught me reading english through phonics. i do think pattern matching/cueing/mapping works pretty well when you're memorizing new words. i'd love to see research on reading with primary languages other than english like asl, portuguese or braille.
