There were howls of protest and denial from the GOP any time we pointed out that Republicans want to cut Social Security.

Now the most powerful official in the White House goes on TV and calls it "the big one to eliminate."
Elon Musk says he wants to “eliminate” programs like Social Security and Medicare: “Entitlements... That’s the big one to eliminate”

Zelensky and Ukraine are the good guys.

Trump has us siding with the bad guys.

This is like if Roosevelt told Churchill that if he’d just let Hitler have the rest of Europe, everything will be fine.

Vance is completely wrong here. US military sales to Ukraine served as a catalyst to rebuild our production capacity for our own potential military needs. I bet you'll never hear him say the same thing about US missiles fired to defend Israel, though that did deplete short-term stocks.

Three years ago, we broke the news that a school superintendent in Granbury, TX, ordered librarians to remove books with LGBTQ characters

It led the Education Department to open a civil rights investigation

It now appears the Trump admin has ended the investigation and 10 others tied to book bans

this is the structure of basically every shutdown/brinksmanship fight I've ever covered and it's not going to change.
a lot of congressional negotiations come down to the fact that Democrats are less willing to hurt people in the name of stupid bullshit than Republicans are and so they blink at the last minute

Vance is lying and he knows it.“Deus vult” has never been a “thing” in American Christianity. And I would know. I grew up in fundamentalist and evangelical churches, read Rush Limbaugh’s books as a kid, wanted to be Jay Sekulow when I grew up. This is extreme even in that context.
Deus vult’ began as a rallying cry for the Crusades. More recently, it’s been adopted by the far right. And we’re not even supposed to wonder/ask why it’s tattooed on the arm of the next defense secretary?

“Elon Musk is a white nationalist” is at this point just descriptive, like saying “Elon Musk was born in June” or “Elon Musk is a 52 year old man.” The biased thing would be to pretend like he isn’t
Elon said, “An entire civilization is willingly giving away its land and women because the alternative is to be mean.”

It’s really hard to overstate how fascist - and dangerous - this kind of rhetoric is. He’s approaching Trump pre-Jan 6th levels of threat. Pay attention.

Reminder that when SCOTUS wanted to nuke Biden's eviction moratorium and student loan forgiveness, they gleefully zipped right by the appellate courts.

But "is the President a King above all mortal law" required inventing several months of delay so they can punt trial beyond the election.
Remember that DOJ sought expedited review of this issue from the Court last year (skipping the circuit courts). They refused and punted it to the DC Circuit, which took months; then dilly dallied all this time after the DC Circuit’s decision, before finally issuing a grant. It’s pretty transparent.
