Optional alternative: find a stash of Romance books in the games/books room of the campground/b&b/motel your family is holidaying in. (Especially good if you have already read all the books you brought with you!)
It's much easier to encounter Romance in the traditional way. Stumbling upon paperbacks at your grandma's house when you are 12.

Been struggling to work out what I did in 2025 and this post reminded me. I had my extremely dysfunctional thyroid removed. Absolutely the right thing to do. My stupid meatsack body has felt so much better without that disaster organ. 10/10 would do again. But would like 2026 to have no surgery pls.
I survived a benign lactational breast tumour that developed into a full soft tissue abscess and sepsis and landed me in hospital for weeks and outpatient for months

and I’m still breastfeeding

Granny Weatherwax in Carpe Jugulum by Terry Pratchett:
“… And sin, young man, is when you treat people as things. Including yourself. That’s what sin is.”

Later in the same conversation:
“Oh, I’m sure there are worse crimes . . .”
“But they starts with thinking about people as things . . . ”
“Like Prime, but with human beings.”

I haven’t watched the horny hockey show (yet) but I both watched and read Red White and Royal Blue and how dare this person call that a desexed story. Those boys fuck a LOT (admittedly more in the book).
Yep it totally sounds like this show has been "desexed"

We knew our youngest child was ADHD when they were 7. It has taken until age 15 to get a diagnosis. Their yearly exams went much more smoothly with accommodations (small room & rest breaks). Rest breaks were only needed in a few exams, but knowing they could take a break took so much pressure off.
Very similar to the trans-kids panic, where the prestige media narrative is that it's far too easy but you talk to any trans person, expert or parent and it's obvious that it's way too hard.
Once again, no one making these claims seems to understand the enormous hurdles in the way of getting a kid the help they need - in this case - I dare anyone suggesting this to go through an IEP process.

When it’s over 35C and the humidity is as close to 100% as it can be without actually raining, I could probably be persuaded that snow at Christmas time was made up by corporations who wanted to sell us cozy romance movies
It's insane to me that so many people live in countries where snow happens. Like. Not just on mountains and stuff, but in the street where you LIVE. Bonkers.

It doesn't help that in most places it's happening while I'm sitting in 35C heat. I know why conspiracy theories start is what I'm saying.

Learned that an anonymous outside expert on submersibles did an interview with the OceanGate Titan investigation, and they released a transcript, with all the names redacted. The first line of his first answer? "I'm sure you're familiar with my film Titanic."

It's important to get your COVID booster, I need to remind you all that the shot is not a sterilizing vaccine. It's going to help you not be hospitalized & potentially die.

Please get your vaccines, but also you need to mask up. You need to wear quality respirator. A vaccine alone is not enough.

This is an excellent piece and illustrates that here in Australia we need to be vigilant and fight to preserve the trans healthcare that we have.
I'm so glad you said this, because about 30 seconds ago, I published a newsletter piece detailing how conservatives have dump-trucked through all of the previously established common sense, nuanced, compromise positions on trans rights to get here: burns-notice.ghost.io/what-would-t...

I have lived in Australia all my life. We don’t have rabies here, and yet I am terrified of rabies. TBH the fact that I’m a biologist who worked for several years in a lab studying zoonotic diseases may have amplified my fear, but I read about rabies as a child and the fear started then.
HOW is EVERYONE not epically terrified of rabies? Do they just not know about it? Like if you know about it… it kinda sticks with you…

This has inspired me to make a Little Guy or 2 this weekend
I love this so much. Making Little Guys (and enjoying other Little Guys) helps me feel so much more human these days

Personally I hope we find out that what Gollum was doing while wandering about looking for the ring was either solving a series of cozy murders (Precious We Wrotes) or performing in an incompetent hobbit amateur dramatic troupe (The Ring that Goes Wrong)

@tkingfisher.com understands cockatoos.
In Sydney, they have learned how to operate drinking fountains.
In Queensland, they stopped a rocket from launching.
GLASGOW AND/OR PHILLY: What the fuck did you just say about the mattress? No, speak up mate, I want to hear it.

CANBERRA: Mattress is adequate. Hotel room is larger than my first two apartments. Outside, the cockatoos plot to turn the mattress to confetti.

What is the point of having a constitution if it allows this? “Humans should not be subjected to torture” is an extremely basic principle that should never have to be explained or justified.

As a teen I was the only non Jewish kid in my circle of friends. They would occasionally call me a goy, always in a joking way. There was absolutely nothing offensive about it. (If I had gone to school more recently, I’m sure my friends would have referred to me as their emotional support goy.)
I feel like I never heard anyone take offense at goy or goyim—or even knew that such a thing was possible—until I started seeing nazi flyers *telling* people that they *should*.

As I said above, the terms have always had a little bit of bite, but I always chalked that up to the *Yiddish*!

Cannot believe people are actually being paid to do LESS work than this.

My long Covid FB group is overflowing with people who were extremely fit and active pre-Covid
I’m excited to continue to inform you working out won’t save you from long covid and you need to wear a mask especially now.
Casey Means called the COVID-19 pandemic “a Darwinian moment for America.”

“Americans must build personal immunity defenses through radical changes in diet and exercise, or risk getting sick and dying,” she wrote.

This is who Donald Trump picked to be surgeon general.

I’m listening to
Paladin’s Grace right now and frankly I’m annoyed whenever my audiobook time gets interrupted because I’m having such a GOOD TIME!
I will say unapologetically right now what I look for in a read is a good time which is why I binged all of @tkingfisher.com 's paladin series in a month and why I'm now sucking down all of @www.joditaylorbooks.com Chronicles of St Mary's now and I'm so grateful for folk who WRITE ME A GOOD TIME.
