Earlier this month, I defended my PhD in front of friends and family. As a teenager, I dreamed of this moment and I’m glad it finally came true. Thanks to my mentors, Drs. Paulson and Sharkey and my committee members! I will be starting a postdoctoral position in Dr. Roy Parker’s lab at CU Boulder.

So excited to share our new paper out today in @nature.com. We repurposed R2 retrotransposons to create STITCHR, a tool that can make virtually any kind of edit in mammalian genomes including the scarless multi-kilobase scale insertions 🧵

A broad-spectrum lasso peptide antibiotic targeting the bacterial ribosome - Nature
A new lasso peptide antibiotic exhibits broad-spectrum activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria by interfering with bacterial protein synthesis, is unaffected by common resistance mechanisms and shows no toxicity towards human cells.

I wonder if in the future we could take a CRISPRi pill along with penicillin to get rid of a UTI
CRISPR is a gene-editing tool that uses RNA-guided enzymes to target specific DNA sequences. Italian researchers used CRISPR interference (CRISPRi), a non-cleaving version, to suppress ARGs in E. coli, restoring antibiotic effectiveness without causing mutations.
