Two new antibiotics, zoliflodacin and gepotidacin, approved by the FDA on 11–12 Dec 2025, represents major breakthrough against drug-resistant gonorrhoea. They are the first new treatments in decades.

If antibiotics aren’t helping, go back to your doctor, don’t wait it out. Use antibiotics only when prescribed, finish the course, don’t save leftovers, and never share them. Smart use = slowing #AMR.

AMR is hitting LMICs hard. But with stronger political commitment, better surveillance, improved WASH and IPC, and sustained investment in stewardship and innovation, these countries could make major progress in containing #AMR.

WHO reports 1 in 6 bacterial infections worldwide are antibiotic-resistant, with resistance rising sharply since 2018. Gram-negative bacteria like E. coli and K. pneumoniae pose the biggest threat. Action on #AMR surveillance and responsible antibiotic use is needed.

Across Southeast Asia most newborn infections are now caused #AMR bugs, making standard treatments for neonatal sepsis ineffective. Without updated, locally informed treatment guidelines and new antibiotic development, infant mortality rates will rise.
