Was recently told to essentially “Shut up and stick to bike advocacy” after a post supporting the trans community.

2. My voice is not some singular thing - bike advocacy is a small part of my makeup-you don’t like me or my position on things refer to point 1

All the bike and pedestrian infrastructure in the world will not do people any good unless a city has an efficient and accountable maintenance plan.

Yup, heard about this from friends in Guelph. Very upsetting. You spend money on infra and encourage people to use it, but then cut funding to keep it safe an useable all year? What a waste or resources and potential hazard. If anyone is injured as a result, they should call us.

Vision Zero doesn’t discourage people from moving by a certain mode. It demands we make movement safe. Winter cycling is only ‘unsafe’ when the city chooses not to maintain safe conditions. Not maintaining infrastructure and then blaming the people who use it is the opposite of Vision Zero.

And just like that, Guelph bike lanes will no longer be plowed.

An entire mode of transport has been made less accessible and more dangerous as cyclists will be forced to ride in the middle of the road with limited daylight.

Guelph, Ontario (a small city near Toronto) votes against providing cyclists the same basic winter services that are provided to drivers and pedestrians.
Motion fails 6-7.

Gibson, Richardson, Guthrie, Billings, Chew, Busutill, Hauser vote against.

Proposed #MunicipalBudgetCuts in #Guelph

No winter maintenance for on street bicycle lanes means I'll have to take the lane in one of our major corridors.

Don't honk at me I'm balancing the municipal budget! 😳

On Aug 29, a cyclist was killed at Elmira Rd N & Massey Rd in Guelph.

On Oct 18, we’ll ride together to honour their life and install a ghost bike donated by ARC - Advocacy for Respect for Cyclists to call for safer streets for everyone who walks, wheels, and rides.
