Subways down, sitting on a shuttle bus. Reading @albertkoehl.bsky.social book.

If ur a fan of Toronto history, this is great dive into cycling in the city.

Side note, can we retire the word cyclist & bring back the term Wheelmen? So much better

I guess I better stop encouraging my child to walk home from school, if this is the plan.

CycleTO has a petition that you can sign and I think they will provide a template that is sent to the Premier's office. You may be able to adjust it and send it to your City Councillor and MPP as well.

What to do with your Doug dollars $200 payoff? Help fund some organizations that he has fucked or is fucking with.

Overdose Prevention Sites
Legal aid clinics
Cycling organizations (ie CycleTO)
Advocacy for healthcare access for uninsured

Any others?

Drivers vs. Cyclists: A Battle For the Streets in Canada’s Largest City
There was a major article in the NYTimes this morning about the fight around bike lanes in Toronto. Lots of good quotes from some of the usual suspects: Michael Longfield (CycleTO), Chad Mohr (Toronto Bike Brigade), Geoffrey Bercarich (ARC) and Dave Shellnut (the Biking Lawyer), among others. Some of the pictures were taken during a critical mass ride back in May.

This thread on how, starting in 1978, Strasbourg made itself a great cycling city, includes a point I wish Toronto employed: actively encouraging more people to become cyclists through training programs to teach cycling, repair, and fun challenges to promote bike commuting. #cycleto
In 1978, alarmed by the 50,000 cars entering the city centre each day, advocates urged Mayor Pierre Pflimlin take a delegation to meet their counterparts in The Hague. They returned convinced and the decision was soon made to write Strasbourg’s first Cycling Master Plan, focusing on four components:

I’m developing a sport cycling theory of Toronto: #cycleTO Will add as I learn more.
- Prime cycle streets west of downtown: Royal York into The Kingsway into Eglinton. Renforth is also great.
- Eglinton is the only non-sketchy way to cross the 427
- the Etobicoke creek trail is mint

New cycleTO goal…all AM radio stations and Toronto newspapers to receive bike lanes in order to trigger and ultimately convert the shock jocks…
August 2, 2025 at 8:49 PM
Yanno, I didn't actually realize this, but it makes *so much sense.* Bike lanes let cyclists sail past other traffic with ease. So of course they provide an excellent open pathway for fast emergency services! (I wouldn't even bitch about a vehicle in the bike lane, promise!) #CycleTO
This video is for Doug Ford, and all those in my replies saying bike lanes "stop emergency vehicles from getting to their destination". They *allow* emergency vehicles to get to their destination, as seen here on Adelaide. They were designed with emergency services in mind.

There are four possible outcomes. No injunction and Ford wins, injunction and CycleTO wins, injunction and Ford wins, no injunction and CycleTO wins. The first two do nothing, the third results in a minor delay, and the last results in potential large costs to rebuild destroyed infrastructure.

UPDATED: The Ford government will appeal against the bike lane court decision.

Earlier today, CycleTO won its fight to keep bike lanes in Toronto, with a court ruling removing them is a Charter "breach."

The ruling will now be challenged. #ONpoli globalnews.ca/news/1131136...

The Ford government's plans to tear out dedicated bike lanes from three Toronto routes has been deemed to be unconstitutional, halting a populist pledge driven by the premier.
