Insane but true fact: making US roads as safe as Canadian, Australian, or European roads would save more lives than eliminating murder from the US.

Watching the “political violence has no place in America” language with interest.

I’m no historian, but our whole nation is founded on political violence. And has continued to be politically violent ever since.

Curious how “political violence” from a communication perspective shifts.

Honestly can't think of a more straightforward example of how men profit from the sexual degradation of women
From @theathletic.com: A memecoin — Green Dildo Coin — and it's community are responsible for some of the disruptions at WNBA games.
The group's coin was created the day before the first incident, and as of Thursday, its worth had nearly tripled in one week.

Cursive is so unique to each person. I remember forging my dad’s signature on a bunch of documents my 5th grade teacher would send home when I wasn’t doing my work. She knew it looked off and saved em all until the day he showed up. She dropped that stack of paper on me like I caught a RICO case 😭.

I think it was @prisonculture.bsky.social who said something to the effect of "all the deportation captivity horror stories are what we've been saying is happening in normal prisons for years" and it continues to be largely correct.
Please read this first-person essay from Lanae Tipton, an incarcerated journalist in Texas with a desperate plea for air conditioning in prisons. She’s watched women seize on the floor from the heat. As one prison staffer said, “I vomited blood.”

I Watched a Woman Nearly Die in a Cell Across From Mine. Texas Prisons Need Air Conditioning.
More than two-thirds of Texas’ 100 prisons don’t have air conditioning — that can mean the difference between life and death.

Every single story you are hearing from the Everglades Concentration Camp has been and is already taking place in hundreds of prisons and jails in the U.S. That's what PIC abolitionists have been trying to get the public to understand for decades.

This is an excellent piece, not just about school lunch debt, but how we manage the relationship between working for systemic change and mitigating immediate harm.

There are a couple of kids in my nephews's class who weren't born in the US, and the class has decided (w/o teacher input) that if ICE shows up in they're all going to pretend not to speak English. 10yos reinventing "I am Spartacus" because they don't want their friends to get disappeared.

I can’t believe the media covered up the fact that a clear mental incompetent was running the government while out of his mind on drugs, despite it being widely known in DC circles, to preserve their access to the White House. There should be huge recriminations for this.

Not only is this a truly screwed up way to govern in general (error rate?) but including charges that got dropped is batshit.
Context: All of us who got arrested for peacefully marching past curfew with BLM in 2020 were charged w/ misdemeanors dropped by the City of LA w/in a week. That would count.
HAPPENING NOW: DHS official tells court that agency diverted 10-20 employees to run *1.3 million* names of foreign students through database that tracks criminal charges. Took 2-3 weeks.

There were ~6,400 hits (0.004%). But thousands were for charges that never led to convictions or were dropped.

How many times have you been left feeling powerless after some company emails you to say that your data may have been stolen in a data breach or is now available on the dark web? The only option for you then is to just be vigilant. No authority. No consequences

But the real culprit here is the way we handed all of our data over to the marketplace and have treated successively more dire data breaches as an inevitable consequence of living in the information age. Now we are supposed to care that our data has been stolen and consolidated for sale?

Is suffices to say that after 15 years of both democrat and Republican administrations treating treating data as instrumental instead of rights and responsibilities, we were defenseless.
