As a UK resident who has paid for two degrees, five visas, and more than 10 years of the NHS surcharge since I moved here at 19, this is infuriating.

As a journalist, it's alarming that the Home Sec clearly does not understand the system she says needs to be reformed.

Abolish the monarchy *and* the House of Lords.
Andrew M-Windsor was rightfully stripped of all titles.

So I'm wondering why Mandelson is still a Lord?

It wasn’t the racism.
It wasn’t the rule breaking.
It wasn’t the corruption.

No Jenrick gets removed for plotting.

Politics for too many leaders is just a game, and not a moral one.

It’s why people are crying out for hope.
NEW: Big, big news in Westminster for the Conservative Party. Kemi Badenoch has not only sacked but removed the whip from Robert Jenrick, saying he was planning to defect.

UK media, incl. the BBC’s flagship political show, is rehabilitating a man who was “best pals” with one of the world’s most notorious paedophiles & still refuses to apologise to Epstein’s victims.

He retains the Labour whip in the Lords. That tells you everything about the political & media class.

I’m sure the “protect our women and girls” brigade will have plenty to say about this👍🏼

There are indeed some parts of our society that don’t treat women properly…

Here is a former TORY Councillor (and 5 OTHER men) charged with the rape and sexual assault of HIS WIFE

British politics is a mess. Food, energy, housing are all too expensive. Major parties are all flogging the dead horse of trickle down. So I’m joining the Green Party. Britain needs an economy that works for workers, for small businesses, and future generations. @greenparty.org.uk

A good question. I favour its complete reform, but at least to make it function as part of a democracy we need:
1. Term limits (I suggest 5 years, renewable once)
2. Members appointed by independent body, not PM
3. Cap on total number of members
4. Stop giving them silly titles, it’s embarrassing
Why is the House of Lords?

The problem isn't CGI. I love VFX! I think the problem is that you're watching a film that's three hours long and not about anything.

A pissed off thread using data.

Ending section 21 gives Govt some breathing space to truly end homelessness, but its new plan falls very short.

With housing benefit still frozen, more and more families will fall through the cracks when things go wrong.

Housing remains a seriously disrespected human right.
BREAKING: The UK Government has published their homelessness strategy.

It’s a step in the right direction with much to be applauded. But it falls short of what’s desperately needed to end Britain’s homelessness crisis.

The big problem with the “serious people should be left to do serious politics” thing is that the serious people doing serious politics have repeatedly fucked up for the past 40 years
And today it's the turn of The Times to try and patronise us all.

Every single day the right wing establishment tries to close ranks.

And every day we are growing.

Which adults? All we have is obsessed toddlers shouting out ‘I can be nastier to immigrants than you’ in the loudest voices they can find. If you want to be considered the adults in the room, you need to behave like adults.
He's right. Just because I might prefer Zacks populist policies to Nigels doesn't make any of it more achievable.
The current government have inherited an absolute mess snd it is going to take adults a long time to sort it out.

This is exactly my position. Licensed displays only. No bloody idiots setting them off in the street or back garden, sometimes in the small hours, terrifying animals and people, causing injuries or damage that are totally avoidable
I like fireworks but they shouldn't be sold to the general public. Obviously some twat's going to lob one at a paramedic. Garden fireworks are always shit anyway. Go and give the rotary club a fiver and watch a good display in a field with a candyfloss machine and a tombola.
