It was not unnoticed at the time. I personally watched this attempted coup happen live on television with a class of 7th graders.
Don’t let this go unnoticed just because it’s the holidays!

A reminder of the stunning rate of scientific progress: it’s only been 101 years that we’ve known the Universe is larger than the Milky Way. Now we know that it’s at least *1 million* times larger in linear size than the Milky Way (and probably 50 or more times larger than that, even).
Edwin Hubble announced OTD in 1925 that Andromeda and other spiral nebulae were in fact separate galaxies outside the Milky Way, in a paper read to an AAS meeting by H.N. Russell. The Universe was far larger than what many astronomers had imagined; more than just our little island of stars. 🧪 🔭

Crazy discriminatory policy. Not to mention so dangerous for people trying to get out of bad situations.
A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles.

When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies.

This is outrageous.

So if you're a family evicted from your apartment, or a mother fleeing domestic violence with her children, or someone unhoused trying to get off the street or out of their car for a night... you're not allowed to stay at these Asheville hotels.

Just unabashed discrimination.

This is a great example not just of Nazism being normalized, but of being so removed from the consequences of Nazism that it becomes just a thought exercise. I mean, hey, 20 years ago this avowed antisemite couldn’t even have been part of polite society and look at him now!
Joe Rogan and Shane Gillis on Nick Fuentes running for president one day.

Rogan: “He could probably win in a few years. Listen, he couldn’t have existed before, right? Ten, twenty years ago, couldn’t have existed. Now, super popular. What’s twenty years from now look like?”

This is beautiful. The smiles! Bondi beach hero Ahmed Al-Ahmed with the doctors looking after him at the hospital in Sydney.

And…

The doctors are *also* Syrian!

Tamer Al-Kahil from Homs.
Anas Natfaji from Aleppo.

*Three* heroes.

I do think more people should appreciate that Sarah has to be selective about when she draws attention to her identity given the obsessive focus on it by some of her colleagues--she is in a uniquely impossible position. But it also makes it more impactful when she does.

Shameful and scary. So much harm masquerading as concern.
The House passed legislation today that would charge doctors with a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison for providing transition-related care to minors.

Rep. Sarah McBride strongly condemned the legislation in rare personal remarks ahead of the vote.

Year-end tributes tend to honor the famous. I'm thinking of A'millah Currie, 2, and Darnell Currie Jr., 9.

In February, their mom sought help from Detroit's homeless response system. No one called back. Shelter beds were available.

The kids died of carbon monoxide in the van they were living in.

ICE pepper-sprayed this 1-year-old girl.

Once at the hospital, the doctor had to call in a poison control specialist.

They had never seen anyone that young pepper sprayed.

Another horrific story.

More details below.

What a world to go to bed thinking about one mass shooting and wake up to news of another, a targeted hate crime, at a Hanukkah celebration in Sydney. And also in the video where an actual hero, Ahmed al Ahmed chooses not to kill one of the terrorists.

Extraordinary courage from Ahmed al Ahmed, a Muslim, 43-year-old father of two, who bravely risked his life to save his neighbors celebrating Hanukkah.

Praying for his full & speedy recovery.

And so deeply inspired by his example.
