The later Me 263/Ju 248 held much more promise but was hamstrung by competing priorities, material shortages, and bureaucratic incompetence (practically an RLM trademark). The biggest issue with the 163 was the tanks in the cockpit- if those ruptured, the fuel would DISSOLVE THE PILOT.
