Maybe this is what finally closes the loop and fixes the world

if you or someone you love is thinking of flying out to volunteer: please donate the costs of that trip to a rent fund
it it rude to respond to emails of “i can fly out and volunteer for a few days” with “please donate the costs of that trip to a rent fund”

I am introducing the Cut It Out And This Time I Really Mean It bill. It provides an additional $57 billion to the murder goons but they will agree to wear business casual Monday through Thursday and if they do any murders they have to put a dollar in this jar.

If you are someone that this extremist regime wants to terrorize, deport or annihilate- your staying alive and protecting yourself IS justice work.

Your survival is revolutionary.

If you are caring for and cherishing and protecting someone that capitalism sees as disposable

You are on the front lines already.

Listen: because I am hearing this a lot from folks who are in caregiving roles with disabled, sick, dying folks, elders, or children in their care:

You are not unable to do anything or unable to take action.

Care work IS justice work

one way or another, your brain and your body will take breaks.

you can do this intentionally, through planning for it, sharing skills, and passing things off…

… or unintentionally, in ways that are more disruptive to you and others.

you can take regular, shorter breaks, or burn out entirely.
I paid my therapist a zillion dollars to tell me this, so I’m passing it on to anyone else in MN who needs to hear it:

Think of taking time away to recharge not as not doing the work, but as doing quality control for the work. You’re not going to be able to show up to do it well if you’re depleted

I'll be sharing a few more fundraisers from the twin cities, and once again, I am only sharing those that are vouched for by people I personally know who are on the ground.

This is a bail fund that helps people who were arrested and are facing charges.

Being a journalist is sick: I just contacted a pre-eminent jaguar conservationist in Argentine with a question that has been weighing on me for ages and he wrote back right away with an informed answer.

this whole thread is excellent.

in general: stop telling people not to do things you know they’re going to do!

if you want to be helpful, start by understanding what people are going to do, then give advice on how to do it as safely as possible.

abstinence-only security guidance doesn’t work.
I need people who don’t live in the Twin Cities to stop telling people not to join massive Signal groups right now. People are doing it. They’re going to keep doing it. Give them good advice about it.

The actually practical advice is don’t say anything to 1000 strangers you wouldn’t say in public

the arts are genuinely important. not only do they keep us connected to our humanity, and help build empathy, but they also provide a foundational component of making the world a better place: enough space from what is, that we’re able to orient ourselves instead to what could be.
Any authors/artists feeling weird about doing self-promotion right now: I'm actually kind of begging you to bring some of your unique creation to my timeline.

Not just as a distraction, but because art is a tool for building empathy--it's the way we learn to see the world through other eyes.
"Books for sale!" is basically a timeline cleanse at this point. It feels like hitting a save point inna video game and being able to breathe for a moment.

one of the most wholesome delights in this world is yapping about how wonderful your loved ones are to anyone and everyone who will listen, and then turning around and confessing, “i’ve been talking nice about you behind your back.”

100000000/10, highly recommend gossip, but make it loving and kind
u should be talking about your friends behind their backs.

u should be telling everyone you meet how amazing and beautiful and wonderful they are.

I think a lot of us get hope wrong. Hope, I do not believe, is an emotion. In fact, hope makes space for lots of emotions to exist alongside it. You can DO hope scared, angry, sad etc...

Hope doesn't find us. We make hope through action and struggle. It's a practice of living and is re-made daily.

i don’t care if the victim was unemployed, or a nurse, or a drug dealer.

i don’t care whether they were armed or unarmed, “peaceful” or not.

i do not accept the premise that a state has a right to uphold power over its people through violence, and neither should you.
i don’t actually think the state should be allowed to execute anyone, regardless of any surrounding conditions.
