#introduction: I try to get computers to do things, and try to help people at getting better at making computers do things!

Lately my go-to programming language of choice is #python, and I love telling compelling stories with #git

I play (and sometimes teach) #ukulele in #yeg.
Welp, last week's #lego order showed up so I guess that's my weekend plans sorted.

Nicolaides doubled down on the reason for using the notwithstanding clause today...

"Look, if we had let someone come in and objectively look at how underfunded education is in Alberta, it could have cost the government BILLIONS!"

There's also an insane logic spiral going on here.

We've lost our audience to the internet!
We can't produce as much quantity or quality because we're broke!
Because we're broke, we're going to use a service to make our quality even worse!
People will flock back to us!

We need to ask ourselves why we, as a province, think it's acceptable for a government to legalize its own unethical conduct and investigate itself under circumstances it controls.

For all people claim to care about corruption around here, they sure don't care when it's their guys.

I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

Yes. This. Please.

You don't need to use the industry's marketing terms when informing your readers, because those terms are actively misinforming them.
Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

After MTS adopted free fares for minors, the average age of riders on my usual bus (serves two high schools and both weekend terminals are shopping malls) dropped substantially. They get freedom without driving (inherently dangerous at their age) or their families needing to afford the extra car.
Just preaching my message of "wanting to do less more often" we all have our reasons.
